Tasman v Canterbury
-
-
Fletcher Anderson loaned out to Tasman from Canterbury.
-
A loosie? What position does he normally play?
-
He's a no.7.
I should add Anderson was in the Crusaders U20s, and Tasman also had some loosies in that team.
-
Worth noting the unusual kickoff time for this match: 5:35pm on a Friday
-
Kershawl? Poor fellow
-
@Chris hoping Corey Kellow gets a start soon🙂

Storm week coming up.
-
Looks like injuries biting already - or shotgun selecting - that team seems quite a way from the best we could field.
Aren't Atu Moli and Luca Inch predominantly looseheads? Despite naming a truckload of props in the initial squad, it looks like we've run out of tightheads - Lomax, Matenga, Salmon and presumably Graham-Williams!
Strange injured in the first minutes last week - and no sign of Hicks or Sione Havili this week.
Backs are more settled, aside from the AB recalls and the disappearance of Highlanders favourite, Fetuli Paea. Any news on Mitch Hunt?

Didn't he fail an HIA in last weeks game? So he's probably not recovered
-
@Chris-B Moli was a TH who has been converted into a LH/TH. I'd say he is still more comfortable at TH.
-
@Bovidae Don't think he's ever scrummed adequately at LH. Looked a lot better at TH.
-
@Chris-B makos just ain't the same without hunty😔

Interesting though that his 5 appearances for the ABs have all been at LH. As I've said before, this is a big NPC for Moli to prove he is worthy of a SR contract.
-
@Bovidae Staying fit and showing his body is up to the rigours of pro rugby will be a great start.

Or Will Jordan if I'm being honest!!!
-
@Chris good news Chris🙂 Corey Kellow is starting, but I'm not sure who to take for 1st Try he or Bridgey

Got to be Bridgey mate.

@Duluth Ben Funnell is back? Wasn't named in the original squad, like Franks. Maybe brought in for injured McAlister? He's a better option for Canterbury than Klein.
-
A text version of the team, because those images suck on a phone:
1 Finlay Brewis, 2 George Bell, 3 Oli Jager, 4 Same Darry, 5 Dominic Gardiner, 6 Billy Harmon (c), 7 Corey Kellow, 8 Cullen Grace, 9 Mitchell Drummond, 10 Fergus Burke, 11 George Bridge, 12 Rameka Poihipi, 13 Dallas McLeod, 14 Manasa Mataele, 15 Chay Fihaki
Reserves: 16 Ben Funnell, 17 Daniel Lienert-Brown, 18 Tamati Williams, 19 Luke Romano, 20 Liam Allen, 21 Willi Heinz, 22 Isaiah Punivai, 23 Ngatungane Punivai

Yes bought in for McAlister still playing club rugby in the country comp.
-
@Stargazer my old man calls Klein a useless you know what, so yeah good to see the 5th member of the Whitelock clan back

McAlister & Klein are injured:
Strong form during pre-season and with the Canterbury B’s has seen Liam Allen also promoted to the NPC side along with Ben Funnell, who’s been called into the cover hooker, with Brodie McAlister and Shilo Klien both out with injury. It’ll be Funnell’s first appearance in red and black since winning the 2017 grand final against Tasman.
-
Good to hear he has overcome his struggles with long-covid.
npunivai WE BACK 🙌🏾
The last few months have been spent wondering when I would get over Long Covid and if I’d ever recover enough to get back on the field again.
A week ago I played my first game of rugby since COVID affected my heart. Yesterday I was able to back it up and was even more special to share it with my brother 🤝🏾
I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has supported, messaged, prayed for and helped me to get back to doing what I love. This one’s for you 🫶🏾❤️

A few simple misses from Tasman
-
Missed the first 10.. has the Canterbury winger I like been good so far?
-
Wow, that was brainless rugby by Tasman. Trying to run it out from your 22 when you've been under the pump for the last 10 minutes.
Mataele has been everywhere in this game so far.
-
All Canterbury so far. Tasman not great though
-
Canterbury go bang, bang after Hotham fails to clear twice in the space of a minute. The Tasman forwards need to do a better job at protecting their halfback.

Tasman are poor. Need to wake up or could be in for a thrashing
17-3 after 18 minutes
-
Broken arm for Cullen Grace? Poor bugger, he should be an AB.
-
F*ck, bad injury Cullen Grace.
-
@Canes4life Really disappointing for him. He was a certainty for at least that ABs XV side, if not the ABs for the EOYT.
-
Springer!
-
Tasman score. Finally got through after good defense by Canterbury
17-8 after missed conversion
-
Need Grace for our NPC campaign.
Our continuity has been very good so far.
-
Dom Gardiner try🙂 his partner in crime Darry has been busy
-
Nankivel deserved a card there. Lucky.

HT: Tasman 8 - 24 Canterbury
