The Bay v Northland
-
Worth noting the unusual kickoff time for this midweek game - 4:05pm on Wednesday
-
So Northland need to win this, beat Manawatu in Kaikohe and hope Tasman loses to Hawkes
-
@Duluth its Bay now
Not sure how the Bay play this one, if the shield was in question, my guess was a B team likely, however given the tight table, I would suggest they might run out their main team and run a few dev players next weekend
-
Good point, I've corrected the title to be 'The Bay v Northland'
-
@bayimports haha yea useless Waikato π
Unless we get our mojo back, I see another 50 pointer on the cards, no matter who BOP run out this week...

Pretty much.. weβll be lucky to beat Manawatu the way we are self imploding. BOP 17+ easy in this one.

no disagreement there lol

Surely not? I didn't see last weekends game, but you were seriously in the fight in previous matches before that? Injuries? or just loss of form?
-
@bayimports complacency. Seemed like they got a bit far ahead of themselves after beating Auckland and took the foot off the pedal.

We might have a few sore bodies from the battle of the bays, I wouldn't be ruling Northland out of this, don't deny we would be favourites though. I am hoping for a win and we will have confidence but I am always weary of the taniwha clash.
-
@bayimports we do have a decent record against you fellas in general, and if our team from the first 5 rounds shows up Iβd give us an even chance.. but seriously I think you can bank this one. We may scrap for 40-50 mins but weβll inevitably drop off as we have the last few weeks.
-

The NPC record is pretty good:
However, no Northland wins for 5 years. No win in The Bay for 8 years
Link to the results:
-
@Duluth I must have been imagining things, I thought we had a more recent one, but yeah in general pretty even.
-
@J77 given Ofa only had 20 or so minutes on Sat, I wonder if he will be released for this and/or the Manawatu game?
Assuming fitness and availability, I'd like to see:
Adams, Moulds, Ofa
Caird, Goodhue/Vaipulu
Rush, McNamara, Matich
Milo-Harris, Reihana
Tua, Going
Murray, Moorby, AndersonBKP, CTC, Fono, KIng/Goodhue, Mau'u, Hape, Nankivell, Macilai
Not as much change I'd like TBH, plus I am not sure the likes of Vaipulu, King Nankivell & Hape are even fit still, been several weeks since last dev game, sure they likely been keeping gym fit...
I honestly dont see us having much shot at this, our shot at a top 4 spot all but gone, so we just need to go out and play some rugby
-
@taniwharugby nice to see youβve removed all our problem children from that lineup. Someone with common sense for once!

Will go along... If I can find parking within a kilometre.
-
@taniwharugby I think Macalai has a lot to offer if we play the right game plan. Big if.
-
team I have heard:
Adams, BKP, Tu'ungafasi
Goodhue, Caird
Hallam-Eames, Matich, Mau'u
MIlo-Harris, Reihana
Going, Tua
Macilai, Moorby, LeiluaWright, O'Donnell, Puafisi, Matiu, Rush, Hape, Hawkins, Murray
Word I am hearing, depending on fitness for the final RR game, this may well be Wrights last run for Northland...hope our boys lift to give him a fine send off (much like when they lifted for Rangers hundy last year v Waikato)
-
Would that be Hallam-Eames first start in the loosies?
-
@Duluth as far as I can recall, although TBH I think last year I had suggested him at 6 with that locking duo as an option.
Almost like Konia following Fozzies blueprint
Great to see Going finally get a start.
-
Not a bad side bar Leilua, but a good opportunity for some others. Great to see big Ofa back. Whilst not expecting to win I am expecting a much improved effort.
Be interesting to see what BOP does with their team now.
-
I think this will be almost a complete second string team on Wednesday for the Bay, maybe with some guns on the bench. Not through taking the game lightly but just to ensure the first XV is ready to roll for the next 2 or possibly 3/4 weekends. We do have some depth, especially in the pack so hopefully the team will be good enough.
Everyone will be hoping we don't finish top to avoid a potential home semi-final at Tga Domain not being able to be played at night.

@Duluth second team it is with a couple of normal starters
-
@bayimports Seems risky by the Steamers. Northland far stronger on paper now. I have taken the day off to go - and am now regretting it.

I agree especially since we are not guaranteed a quarter final yet, we need at least one bonus point to do this. Seems a risky play.
Personally I would have gone all out for this and then run the second team for Waikato since it won't be a shield challenge.

Have no fear. Us Northlanders know our team well, if any side can trip up to your 2nd XV itβs us.. trust me.
-
@J77 yep...and if we somehow do pull it off (which on paper, we are more than capable) we are then just as likely to turn around and give Manawatu thier first win of the season
-
I'm not betting against my own team but 2.90 H2H for Northland is outrageous given those teams named
-
OMG... so THE Bay have handed us a lifeline by selecting a virtual B Team. God bless you lads. Best Northland side we have put up for a few weeks too. Didn't give us a hope until I saw the two teams named just now.
Still, the wheels have fallen off the Taniwha wagon big time since that Auckland win. Just hope they fire tomorrow and give themselves a shot at making the quarters.
One thing's for sure... if we manage to win this and then somehow sneak into the finals, the Steamers will be off Tasman's (or maybe Auckland's) Christmas card list this year.
-
@fidz71 Always hard to decide which Bay team to hate more!

No floodlights and Rotorua is out of action.

Especially an all black laden team! 1 ab is infinity times more than 0

as someone who has followed BOP rugby since i was old enough to know what it was
i never assume we are favourites for anything until 15 minutes after the final whistle.

Easy, Hawkes Bay then Tasman, thats near a bay isnt it
@mariner4life we are never favorites, except in the hearts of fans, but then our brains usually slap us back to reality!

Hey! And to think I was going to support you guys this week.
-
@Nepia only cos you hate the other 2 teams we are playing as well as us!

@taniwharugby "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful!"
