So I wonder how much they have to pay back Sky for replays?

    Also, how much?

and to think the AFL get like $640M a year for their broadcast rights. Even the NRL get $400m and half of Australia couldn't give a shit about

    https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/all-blacks/132783140/nzr-is-better-than-expected-but-what-does-it-mean-for-the-all-blacks-and-sky

There will also be an upcoming rugby/lifestyle series featuring Taika Waititi, while Stuff also understands that former SportsCafe and The Crowd Goes Wild presenter/producer Ric Salizzo will be part a daily show to run during the Rugby World Cup.

Whisper, the UK-founded media house that produced Spark Sport’s cricket coverage, are involved, under the expert eye of media player James Gemmell, the for Sky UK presenter who also hosted the 2019 Rugby World Cup coverage for Spark.

Hopefully they keep adding things. They should add a moire technical/analysis show too

Must say the All Blacks doco series is very good. Made me rethink my thoughts from last year (which it is obviously edited favourably) but still. Think it helps to get the deep personal connection from the players + coaches.

Yep I enjoying watching it. But I a rugby nerd and more I see of this kind of stuff the better.
I find the interesting thing also is where this will go in a few years. I really think it the way forward.

Interestingly, Sky seems to think that NZR+ is aimed at external markets. I wonder if we'll see ABs games steamed outside NZ on the service, but sticking with sky here

    NZR+ takes the field
Where does the Sky CEO see NZ Rugby’s new NZR+ streaming service fitting into the market?

For now, NZR+, which launched last week, is offering documentaries and behind-the-scenes footage, though pundits see it as a vehicle for direct-to-fans, pay-per-view or subscription streaming in the future.

"Our understanding is that it’s very much about the global audience; the All Black fan base that is not being reached currently,” said Moloney, who got a pre-launch preview.

“I know there’ll be interest in what it means for the longer term, and I suppose that will be a discussion. For now, I can say we’ve got a, deep partnership that runs to the end of 2025 where all of the live content is with Sky.”

Some elements extend further, including Rugby World Cup rights that Sky holds through to 2029.

@Machpants be good if they could provide open insight into the tours, like the old ones with Ric Salizzo?

Sadly, think we are so far past that, everything would be santised, scripted and edited.

I had the option to cast to Chromecast, but it didn't work (on Android). I think that part is broken.

I can understand some young shit may find that viral or whatever.

However, if NZR+ just had really good stats, and a good weekly show to watch (ala Aotearoa rugby pod), alongside a fantasy league, it would be getting plenty more traffic from actual fans.

I’ll suggest the first presenter: Beaver.

Agree on the Aotearoa Rugby Pod, best show in NZ by far. They need to get rid of the Breakdown, I'm sick of hearing Jeff Wilson's opinion on almost every rugby broadcast in New Zealand.

Yeah I found it boring and didn't buy into a lot of what they were spouting.

But at least it was different, that's the point we need a variety for different audiences. Not old abs talking bollocks cos they are so out of touch
