Ok..what? Self described Asians are claiming the word Asian as a descriptor for them is 'incredibly racist service'..and it makes the front page of stuff.
If you think your own ethnic background "Asian" is a pejorative then I think it might be you with the problem not the restaurant.
I can actually understand her logic. She just wants to be seen as everyone else in her native country and when some someone refers to her as "Asian" there can be whole shitload of loaded nuances that goes with that term.
Being of that ethnicity if it happened to me I might be annoyed, depends on how I was treated by the staff. Maybe I'd boycott the place if I felt that strongly (depends how good the food was....). Maybe I'd tell my mates. I don't think I'd go whingeing to the media about it though, seems like the response was disproportionately strong
I've never quite understood why Kiwi's group everyone from Iran - the Philippines as "Asian" and then get hot and bothered when called an Aussie.
Given the negativity associated with "Asian" I can understand that she got triggered. We wouldn't be questioning her stance if the restaurant worker had described a customer as "black"
Why ring the Ferald though? That I don't get
Why? Is it because it would be weird to describe an Asian as black?
I know in NZ we never really are comfortable with describing people as black but it seems to be extremely accepted over here in the UK.

I just never really think of the Indian subcontinent as being part of Asia when talking matter of race. For some reason it is normal in the UK

Aussies (well maybe just Melbournians) are the same.
Friend: "Hey Rembrandt, what was that friends of yours name again?"
Me:"Which friend?"
Friend: "You know, the one..with...uh...dark hair".
Me: "I'm gonna need more info"
Friend: "ummmm uhhh..you know into politics and stuff..sort of my height shortish hair..um from another country..darker uh..complextion"
Me: laughing now "you mean she's black?"
Friend: "uh ...yeah"
Me: "you know you can say that, she know's she is black, it isn't a secret!"It's funny that as people increasingly bend over backwards to appear non-racist they actually start to exhibit behaviours that are racist in that they stop treating people of a different ethnicity as regular people.

@canefan I was questioning why it would be an issue to describe someone as black. Also why is there negativity associated with being Asian? I had absolutely no idea about that.
I don't think there is. Like I said, I probably wouldn't have a problem with it unless the staff treated me badly as well

It hasnât been established who the victim is or if Snowy is the murderer .
Then again itâs pretty suspicious that he hasnât denied killing anyone.
Looking forward to him popping up on series 3 of Making a Murderer next year..

A forum that had a murderer, but even worse a lycra clad individual running around with a dildo in his mouth!

A murder in Snells Beach! @Snowy What is going on up that way?
Pretty rough up here Bro (as you know) and drums are fucking annoying (even though I used to play them).
@Bones said in Alternative needed from the absolute crap of stuff.co.nz:
@Tim he's been conspicuously absent of late....I thought it might have just been that the Blues are about to start playing again...but, who knows?
The Blues could drive someone to murder (or suicide) but I have been a bit busy moving further north and didn't have time to do either. The neighbourhood has gone to the dogs , not that I am in Snells, but it is close enough, so up the coast I go away from the murders, or temptation to commit one.

Doesn't exist anymore
Lucky me, I am part of the "super city" (but yes, I kind of hope he worked in the rates allocation department).
