Any American Ferners left, and if so, how are you watching?

Since Directv did away with their southern hemisphere rugby feed (ch. 490), it seems there's nowhere to watch the games. I'm 0-3 on the Wales tour and I'm wondering if anyone knows of another option. It would be terrific if I could watch the SA and AUS games this year on my 46inch screen in hi def, vs. relying on dodgy illegal streams.

ESPN owns all the rights that DirecTV used to, and more. They show all the Super rugby games, all the Sanzar Internationals, Top14, and the u20s. Live or in delay via watchESPN.
-

As for watching on the big screen, Roku, Apple TV, Amazon Firestick, Chromecast, Xbox One all have the WatchESPN app. Or else, stream it on a PC/laptop and connect up via HDMI.

-

that's terrific...thanks!

rustycruiser, at the risk of sounding dumb, how did you find out about this? i never saw any announcement...just saw the channel disappeared and when i called directv, no one knew anything about it.

i almost never watch anything on espn, so maybe that explains it?
-

When Super Rugby started and the DirecTV channels disappeared, I googled around. The Reddit rugby union section might have been the source? I can't remember.

Just discovered this it's awesome. Watch on iPad , iPhone or stream to tv using Google chrome cast. Quality is fantastic. -
Do you have to be in the states (actually or virtually)?

A mate of mine who travels a lot for work, is quite keen on finding a way to watch LIVE rugby from outside the US. We couldn't quite figure out how it works with watchESPN if you're not in the US, so here are a few questions:

From this http://espn.go.com/watchespn/about, it seems you do have to have a subscription to a participating TV service provider to watch via watchESPN. Is that correct? (There's also a list of participating high speed internet providers)

There's a very long list of both TV and IS providers. Which one to choose if you want to watch rugby? And like BT asked, is that possible from outside USA?

And which of these networks broadcast all those rugby games in your post? Or doesn't that matter and can you watch all those channels?
-

Yeah, you have to enter your cable TV provider credentials to access WatchESPN. And you have to pay for ESPN, if you only have an internet package your providor credentials won't work. No clue about accessing from outside the US. Simple solution would be a VPN like Tunnelbear where you can specify the USA as your country. I used it while I was in England for the world cup, worked like a champ. $7 a month.

The rugby matches are on ESPN3, which is an online only channel. The games don't air on TV at all in the USA

This is a direct link to the 2nd Wales vs NZ game if you want to test access. http://espn.go.com/watchespn/player//id/2820581/size/normal/
-

Thanks RC. The problem with accessing from outside US is not so much the VPN; I use a (free) geo-unblocker all the time. It's more about maybe having to give a physical address in the USA if you have to sign up for something or that you may have to use an American credit card etc to pay. Or literally being required to use certain equipment to access tv/video channels.

(I understand from the USA Eagles twitter that some games are broadcasted delayed on the CBS Sports network, or isn't that television?)
-

Thanks again Rusty for tipping me off about the ESPN coverage. I spent the weekend getting caught up, and I'm excited to see some Super Rugby again!
