@booboo the Afrikaans "G" doesnt exist in English. Neither does the R come to think of it.
-
Willie can be accused of many things (most commonly that he is not a very good rugby player) and he could be a hood wearing Nazi that hates all black people with a deep burning hatred - but its highly unlikely he would call a pacific island a "black fluffybunny", not because he isnt racist or anything, but that is not racial insult that exists in his context and pacific islanders are not considered "black" in SA culture.
-
@pakman but he is also the slowest of body and mind. Despite the amount of kicking he does, it's rarely very good.
He might stop one try through his superior defence, but he costs at least two tries through his poor option taking.
-
@pakman said in RWC Week 3: Springboks v Ireland:
I really hate this selection.
Fuck Jasper Wiese
I honestly think Faf is the worst scrumhalf of the four in the squad.
Kolbe vs Mapimpi. Kolbe does all the pretty shit - Mapimpi scores tries. I prefer tries
The fucken bench. OK let's say the 7-1 is the right call, why not go with the scrumhalf that is actually half decent at playing wing (Williams).
But.... the 7 1 is stupid. Even France replaces Dupont at 70 min into the game. We can't sub Faf because we need to keep a very bad winger on the bench (just in case). So we have the power to turn things up in the last quarter, but we can't turn things up at 9. But even if we do, we have a crappy nine coming on anyway.
And the fucken hooker situation. Fourie is not a hooker. Even if his lineout game is good enough - we are giving up so much in the scrum.
-
Voted before the Springbok team is announced, but think it will be under 50 (maybe way under) due to the team selection. I expect a pretty goofy looking Springbok side with Fourie at hooker, two opensides, Hendrikse at 10, maybe Williams on the wing.

I agree with your last point about citings.
We've seen way too many cases where something is missed during the game which is plain for anyone to see on TV, but they fail to cite. I think a lot of that has to do with covering for referees. WR seem to take the view that if the referee misses something then it never happened.
But that also goes to the pressure refereeing teams are under in the game. Something like the Curry and Kriel incidents are things that ruin games because it is such tight calls and with outsized influence on the game.
I think we all agree we want the game to be as safe as reasonably possible.
My view is the best way to achieve that is by ensuring consistent and appropriate punishment for all foul play. I just dont think red cards and multi week bans achieve the goal we want with these types of head on head collisions.
-
@game_film and Telea and Frizell got nothing for their high shots at Mt Smart.
The issue is that the current framework puts way too much pressure on referees to make game deciding calls in every game, but it is premised on the idea that it will make the game safer which I don't think is the case.
-
Re the head clash - yeah both the big calls were wrong this weekend - both should have been yellow cards.
The whole point of the "over punishment" of high tackles is aimed at getting players to change behaviour, but if smashing your own head and getting a yellow isn't going change behaviour then nothing will.

That was a very dumb performance by the the boks.
We have issues with goal kicking, but a monster maul, so what do we do? Take two very ambitious shots when we could go to the corner to turn the screw.
The frontrow took until half time to set up properly. In the first they were caught with their feet too far back, but didn't fix it themselves.
Twice holding balls in messy mauls leading to turnovers.
Kicking three grubbers while in the Scottish 22.
Cheslin twice getting caught out of position for 50 22s (recovered the first one).
Not good enough.
-
@frugby the second one he was so wide/angling in that he either need to good forward fast or he was going to get called
-
@Steve missed a very illegal clear out by Ardie in lead up to your penalty
-
@gt12 Ardie got very very lucky
-
The ABs look unfocused in the build up
-
@reprobate Willemse covers 10 and 12, De Allende 13.
-
@MiketheSnow what are you talking about? Faf and Wiese are the two worst selections in this team. I don't want to wish injury on anyone, but losing Faf increases our chances in this game and the tournament as a whole.

@Billy-Webb I don't think the boks' performance can be called clinical - by my count they left four clear scoring opportunities on the field* as well as a couple more half chances.
I'd rather say the boks hit all their KPIs but didn't really exceed them.
*that is not to say the boks should have had an extra twenty points - some like the two held up, Mapimpi getting pushed into touch or where Moodie was slow to fold round Mapimpi; were either under advantage or led to points soon after.
I don't want to say it on this forum, but the ABs were very poor in this game. The number of errors they made meant they were invited pressure onto themselves and allowed SA to be a bit careless with opportunities they manufactured.

Rewatched the game sober.
Somebody said this was a reverse of Mt Smart and I fully agree. At Mt Smart the All Blacks came out of the gate like their hair was on fire and instead of standing up to the onslaught, the boks kept making mistakes to keep the All Black momentum going. In this game the All Blacks just couldn't get out of their own way. The penalties they were giving away were just braindead.
In terms of the big games coming up I think Esterhuizen has played himself into the first team. The bench frontrow made a huge statement - even in the 10min that it was seven on seven they were destroying their opposites and looks very good going into world cup with a scrum that can win penalties from minute one through to the 80th.
As good as the pack was, De Klerk was pretty terrible, bad option taking, slow, couple of handling errors.

@MiketheSnow would have a knock on in goal so a goal line kick off (based the SA v NZ game with the knock on call on Kolbe)
(The ref was playing advantage to SA in this instance so the question is academic)
