I Admit I am making great generalisations from last nights performance and he has actually looked decent in other outings, however West is a better 1st 5 than
him by some distance all things considered and after watching his option taking last night, I concluded Banks the back up Landers 1st 5 is a better candidate.

Take off the black and white tinted glasses, Mounga's better than West. You're right that Banks is better than them both but who cares, he's off to Italy next season.

Anyway, couldn't catch the game last night but I watched it this morning and that was fucking awesome. Hosting a game in Fiji is a nice change from the same old scenery we've seen for the last 20 odd years and it was great to see the locals get right into it. Hosting AB games in the island is a bit of a reach but I'd like to see more of this.

As for the game itself, everyone seemed to write off the Chiefs pack but they were huge. It took a while but they've really turned things around in the last few months, so credit to the coaches and players, especially Yamashita, who got a lot of shit early on but is pretty fucking solid now. And in the backs, I thought McKenzie and Donald were awesome. Fingers crossed Beavers injury is just a niggle.

One other thing is I think the Welsh game was a pretty big factor in the way that game played out. The Chiefs always seem to play like shit after the June test break but in this game they didn't and I think a lot of that is down to not having an entire month off without a single "real" game. Training sessions and practice games just aren't a replacement for a high intensity game.
-

Sounds like the Crusaders got damned by the Beaver. Well he is only 32.

I don't think Hurricane is a Bay fan, I think you've muddled him up with Stargazer who is a Bay fan and an uber Crusaders fan pretending to not be ;).

To really compare West and Mo'unga you'd need them to swap teams for the rest of the season. At any rate Mo'unga has had a good season so far, last night probably more reflective of the team as a whole than him personally.
-

Yes I do wonder why Alaalotoa is there. Your scrum instantly goes from world class to mediocre with him there. I thought Mitch Hunt could have made an impact if he was given a go and probably should have been given a go with how badly Mo'unga was going.

Mitch hunt deserved a chance.

And after getting 0 minutes last night, he's forbidden from playing club rugby today and had to watch from the sideline

Volavola was playing though, and is still shit -

I watched the same club game and Volavola was hopeless. Took the ball at half pace and just shoveled it on. Whoever recruited him for the Crusaders should be sacked. -

@Nepia or a long time fan (this isn't connected to this game but not sure where to post), who replaced Jones in the Sunday match in the '87 world cup?
It was a trivia question tonight at the bar...

Zinzan Brooke against Argentina, although Mark Brooke-Cowden was the back up 7 in the squad.
-

Not a mix up, I thought he was a HB fan.

One thing I forgot to mention in my other post is that Rennie now has 9 wins over Toddy's Saders, to Toddy's 3 over Rennie's Chiefs.
-

That's quite an amazing stat, particularly because whenever I've compared the teams on paper, the Crusaders seems so much stronger with their AB forward pack.

I well remember when we couldn't buy a win over the Crusaders.
-

what is the Rennie v JJ stat?

Without knowing exactly I would say closer to 50:50. The Chiefs had a long run of wins over the Highlanders but now that has reversed in the last 2 seasons.
-

Cheers for the correction Booboo - I can't actually remember Brooke-Cowden playing at the WC.
-

10 matches, 6-4 to Joseph. 3 wins last season definitely helped.

Hopefully the Chiefs can start pegging that back in the final round.
-

I think nadolo at centre definately adds pace Chris, allows us to play 2 speedsters in the wing in McNicol and Macalai (who was pretty cr@p I'll admit)

very definition of cr@p is not being able to step Beaver who was chasing his kick into wide open spaces.. one of the fastest guys on the paddock not being able to get away from someone running straight at you? That was pathetic.

mind you having someone so awesome coming at you must fcuk with your thinking.
-

Macalai was useless and I had big worries about his selection pre-game. FABJM has been good this season by comparison. I'd even play Havili on the wing ahead of Jone.
