How is FNL - the TV series related to the movie with Billy Bob Thornton.<br />
<br />
Was the movie first? Then the TV series as a spinoff - or are they totally unrelated?<br />
<br />
I ask - as I've got the movie, but have never found time to watch the TV series.
<br />
<br />
Movie was first. It is mostly non fiction, based on the book of the same name. The TV show is related. The director of the movie, Peter Berg, created the TV show. Initially because he was unable to include a lot of the interpersonal topics from the book in the movie due to time constraints. The TV show would give him 22 hours per season versus the 2 or so of the movie. Connie Britton plays the coaches wife on both the book and the movie. Brad Leland also came over. He plays booster Budddy Garrity on the TV show, and the similar character in the movie. The show doesn't use any material from the book, unlike the movie. The town, team, players, events etc are all fictional whereas the movie (mostly) follows the book. But the tone, look, feel, cinematography, even the sound track (music by Explosions in the Sky) is very similar between the two<br />
<br />
I highly reccommend anyone watch season one. It is one of the best single season arcs of any show I have watched. Season 2 is so so (blame network interference trying to get teens to watch). Season 3 and 4 are back up to the standard of the first. One of the few TV shows that I have bought the DVD sets. In fact, Arrested Development is the only other one. -
I was moaning the other day about how few good dramas were on the television and those that were returning were the
old' ones. (Oldies but goodies but nothing
new').<br />
<br />
I have friends in the UK who tell me about great shows (and sometimes they send me videos of the occasional one for me to see) and I thinkwhy aren't we getting these instead of crap reality shows?'<br /> <br /> Then, last night when I was watching
24' on C4 I saw an advertisement showing all thenew season' shows. Hell, they're all coming to C4 while the other networks show us utter rubbish or repeats. (From memory I think I saw
doll house' advertised too).<br />
<br />
So, now, where once upon a time I never even bothered looking at C4's schedule in the TV Guide, it's now becoming the first listing I look at!<br />
<br />
Talking ofrubbish' and
spin-off' shows, did anyone watch the remake ofReggie Perrin' with Martin Clunes? It wasn't as good as the original series but it had its moments. One of them being his reference to watching
CSI Bournemouth' and `Britain's Fattest Cat'. Obviously telly's pretty bad all over! <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':D' /> -

Cheers for the details rusty - I enjoyed the movie, like Explosions in the Sky as well - so will check out the TV series.<br />
<br />
Just finished watching Season 1 of Deadwood on DVD. Superb writing - David Milch is outstanding. It's like sitting down to a 5 course meal as you start an episode. Kicks the shit out of most of the writing on TV. Need to hunt down season 2 and 3 now. -
gotten hold of Series 1 of Breaking Bad, only 7 episodes long??? <br />
<br />
Been meaning to get Deadwood, one of the girls I work with has all of them so will have to get them when I get through Breaking Bad -
Breaking bad was made during the year that the Hollywood writers went on strike, hence the shortened season. It is also a basic cable show. Their seasons tend to be 13 episodes only, unlike a traditional 22-24 episode season for a network show.<br />
<br />
The only problem I have with Deadwood is HBO screwed us. They canceled the show before David Milch could do the last 12 episodes. So there is no real conclusion to the story lines. But the episodes there where made are excellent. Ian McShane was brilliant. -
I really do think its been a fricking outstanding 10 years for top drawer series, the 2 in a class of their own (Wire, Sopranos) then a fuckload that are very very good (Breaking Bad, Shield, 6 Feet Under, Deadwood, Dexter) and then another lot that are well worth getting (24, Battlestar)<br />
<br />
You've really got to have a vast amount of time on your hands before you are reduced to watching Desperate Housewives, CSI Miami, Heroes & Greys Anatomy. And even thats probably being unfair to Desp Housewives, it didn't make me want to claw my own eyes out like that ginger fucker in CSI does...<br />
<br />
And thats without even starting on the superb comedy stuff about like Peep Show, Curb, Weeds etc -
Found this the other day:<br />
<br />
Firefox plugin and instructions to get around geo-blocking of sites like dailyshow.com, nbc.com and others.<br />

<br />
The instructions are for watching the daily show, but try it with any of the us-based sites. Hulu apparently does not play nice - but the streaming quality has been excellent for me. YMMV.<br />
<br />
Easier than torrenting, if you just want to watch - not keep the content. -
Works on adultswim.com too

Rescue Me is the best thing on TV since The Sopranos ended. Nothing else comes close. But then I grew up in New York with some pretty fucked up characters, so the show makes me laugh and brings back memories, some bad, some good.<br />
<br />
Bottom line is that it is extremely well written. My wife loves House, and I can appreciate Hugh Laurie's versatility as an actor--I loved watching him in Jeeves & Wooster and Black Adder, and House is so far from those. He's brilliant. But the series isn't one that I really get into. -
I watched `FlashForward' last night.<br />
<br />
This show has a lot of promise. <br />
<br />
I loved it when, at the end, the mysterious man walked amongst the unconscious crowd.<br />
<br />
Who could that be, I wonder. Muuuuwaaaahaaaaa!<br />
<br />
Can't wait for next week...!<br />
<br />
I just hope it isn't a one-season series. -
yeah it showed promise, how they deal with the next couple of episodes will be interesting.<br />
<br />
Youd have to think it will only be 1 series, I mean how long could thye take to get to April 29 2010 otherwise.<br />
<br />
As to Lost...guess it wouldnt be Lost if you werent more confused after watching it than before!! <br />
<br />
thought there were a couple of errors, deliberate no doubt soon to be explained away -

<br />
Can't wait! -

<br />
