Hotel exercise
-
Had a similiar issue with my out of town travels.

Meal solution: Buy a hot chicken from supermarket, and these fantasic "snap frozen" vege portion thingy's, thay are a perfect single portion that have beans, cauli, broccolli, peas, carrots and corn. You microwave them for two minutes and bingo you have an evening meal. Then the next day you still have a heap of chicken for lunch buy a salard tub from supermarket and another healthy meal is taken care off.

The exercise: Most gyms even shitty ones have a rower and bike, 20mins on each and as MvJ said some sittups and pressups and you are done fella. -
You have rejected Crucial's suggestion, which is almost the total sum of my wisdom,

Failing that, hit the stairs of the hotel if you can get access, helps if the hotel is high rise. Alternatively see if they have Aerobics OZ Style or the fashion channel and sit there with a beer.

I have always found the parks in Central London good for running. -
I don't know what kind of hotel has a microwave in the room but none that I have stayed in!

As for the exercise I guess a bit of rowing and cycling wouldn't kill me I'm looking to get out on my mountain bike a bit when I'm home but have had to lay off it a bit as had a chipped bone in my wrist that I got removed before Xmas and it was giving me a bit of gipp on the old rig.

Cheers for the advice guys

Does anyone know if you get more benefit from doing 1 type of exercise loads or varied exercise? I think conventional wisdom says varied does it not? -
lose your embarrasement mooshld, but every hotel I have stayed in has a resturant that has a kitchen, get them to microwave your kai, then send to your room.
Remember YOU are the customer........ -

MvJ knows the feeling. -
I travel a lot, and I always do circuits of high speed calisthenics in my hotel room. Here's how it works:

Plan a group of exercises (circuit) that includes any combination of burpees, press ups, sit ups, v-ups, squats, lunges, squat thrusts, and back raises. Choose one exercise for each body part, and a total of about 5 exercises per circuit. Do 20 of each, using perfect form, with no rest in between exercises. When you complete one circuit, take a one to two minute break, then do another one. After your second circuit, if you haven't blown chunks, do one more.

I guarantee you these will give you a workout that is better an anything you can do in a gym. And you can do it in about 15 minutes and still have plenty of time to watch hotel porn before heading off to bed. -
I used to travel alot for work and I used to love hotels..especially ones with lap pools. I could work out twice a day and then go for a swim/spa @ night.

Got caught in a hotel in New York once..out in the middle of Long Island, snowing and the gym is closed. So I put my runners on and ran the corridors and used the stairs instead of the lifts.

Did the same in 2003 during RWC in Syd..I was in Manly Pacific and it was pouring outside..was running the corridors and ran into some Bok players - Ashwin Willemse, Joe V Niekerk and Danie Roussouw. Roussouw and Bakkies Botha are big mothers!! I'm 1.91cm and 110kg at the time and I felt tiny. -

Guys heres my busting problem I work away from home a lot like all week most weeks. Some of the hotels have decent gyms, but I hate the gym, lifting never lost me any weight just put it on. Also I find all the waiting for machines and weights a little hard to take.

So I normally plot a 10k starting and finishing at my hotel using gmap pedometer (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/) Couple of problems with this one is when im forced to stay in citys as running in central london sucks and next week im in las vegas staying on the strip, god knows where I can run there. The other problem is that I can only really muster 10k every other day So what should I be doing on my gap days?

Any advice on non boring gym workouts would be appreciated or how to get more benefit from my running I was thinking of dropping in 5k runs on my off days but have been told it would be better to mix it up with other exercise so my body dosent get to used to it.

Your thoughts and advice on what has worked for you would be appreciated.

lifting develops muscle mass which is heavier than fat so its no wonder you never lost weight from lifting.
have you thought about jump rope ? -
heres another thought: hire a bike

I hired a mountain bike from a cycle shop down the road from the walky... watched the abs vs ireland game, hired a bike, rode to wimbledon, watched the safas v scotland and rode back... its outdoors, you get to explore sides of the city you wouldnt usually see (and the women in the sun) plus its a workout. its not the cheapest option (depending on the rental fare) but its a very enjoyable way of getting cardio.Â
