Proud dad moment as my son got player of the day. He plays Loosehead Prop so not a position that stands out. He plays Under 11 and because he was too heavy is playing up one grade so is playing with kids a year older. Good that the coach recognised him.

If the Pacific based team went ahead soon they would be getting players that went to Rapid Rugby, MLR, the proposed South American comp, Fijian Drua. could they afford current polynesian internationals that are in Europe or Japan?

If NZ go without OZ we need more teams. A stronger NPC based competition is never going to happen so:

• Split Blues in Half - North Auckland team and a Auckland City team
• The proposed Pacific themed team based in Manukau, Mt Smart, or Pukekohe
• Chiefs
• Tauranga based team, maybe the China Lions team is expanded
• A Lower North Island Team, pretty much Central Vikings with Taranaki too
• Hurricanes
• Highlanders
• Crusaders
• Possibly a Tasman based team too.

We need to expand the NZ comp slightly to make it less intense and an opportunity for more kiwi players

Expanding on Australia's idea of a southern hemisphere champion of champions competition here are some ideas.

• Countries/regions put forward one or two teams
• Two Tiers
• Intermingle with regular season comp rather than at end
• Qualify by position in previous year

My team that I manage, Te Rapa had their first win beating Pirongia who are still winless. It was a replay of last years Division 1 final. We got ahead by 14 but almost lost it, a nail biting last five minutes. 46 Year old Keith Lowen came on for Pirongia in the second half and was very influential.

Liam Messam is quite likely to play for Raglan in next week's Division 2 Final playing Old Boys Guzzlers C team who are unbeaten for about six years.

I like the fact that Lavea is focusing more on local players and recruiting wisely.
