Ioane doing his hungus best too.
If we'd have scored it would have been pulled back for our 17 being a dickhead (again) and running into defenders.

Just adding to the WTF with that penalty.

Yellow card ya kefe refe?
There has been a lot of PK's in this zone. He was very quick to give the Chiefs a warning for less.
Was it 4 or 5 in that last 10 minutes. Did the ref lose count?
Didn't the Oz comms come round to accepting it as a legal tackle? That's what it sounded like to me.
Is TJ Reece's manager/publicist? He's fluffing him for congratulating another player.
@MajorRage said in What are you listening to, right now................:
Saw Dave Matthews Band at the Albert Hall last night. Reckon my wife and I were the only people not American.
Still an incredible venue, and they are one hell of a band. Carter Beauford is an absolute freak on the drums, I can see why many rate him up there with the very best (Professor, Baker, Bonham etc). He seems to have this technique where its all in the wrists. His arms seem to move slower than the average drummer, but the wrists are just a blur.
Aside, the gig was a bit meh to be honest. They play a strange setlist, with only about 2-3 hits and lots of secondary songs in there. Crush was awesome and easily the highlight song of the evening. About 2:20 in I'd had enough so left. Heard him start Don't Drink The Water on the way out (which is my fave DM song), so popped back in to see the horns guy start another solo and left.
Good gig, 6/10. Could have been so much better.
They've been great the times I've seen them, but mostly because until a few years ago I knew every single song as one of my mates (a drummer who got into them due to Carter) would thrash the hell out of them on road trips, bbq's etc for 20 years.
I don't know how they held us out in the final 10 minutes. But we shouldn't have dug the hole we found ourselves in in the first place
They were gassed more than 20 from the end. We were abysmal. We should have put them away yet our only moves are hopping AFB barrels over or kick to Perriera's wing. If the Titans had a wing who could catch a high ball then we'd only have one tactic.
Why the fuck would you waste a captains challenge with 21 seconds to go? And then lose it.

@Nepia So what sport or team do you support Nepia? Tickets to Canes are up to $50 at Caketin, and I interested to know what sports you follow where you still get $10 tickets and sit on hill.
I will add I not probably someone who goes to sprts events to drink beer anyway, but don't know any that even sell jugs etc. I see no point in drinking piss and needing to bugger off for a leak break, because I go to watch the game.
The fact is for many of us to be a sports fan is to go to games and many fimd it easier to just sit at home and watch on tv. And all power to whichever we are, me I love going to rugby, because at park I can actually see whole game and watch as much as I can with players off ball etc. Doesn't make me better, same as Mariner needing stars to pay for tickets etc, we all do it our own way.Hmm, I think you completely misread that.
@mariner4life and I aren't discussing any current prices, we're discussing going to games as uni students in the 90s.
Ok, I thought Mariner was going crook about prices of tickets etc, so apologies this is where confusion came in for me. Didn't mention Skarvies in the 90s.
(but if i am forking out what they are charging for a fucking ticket to a game these days, i want to see elite talent, not reserve graders.)
But out of interest, Mariner doesn't follow Chiefs as he has lived in Aus for a long time etc, and you said you go along but chnge it to Canes, so again apologies ,I not sure what you meant.
Out of interest I lived in Aus for 24 years but funnily enough remained a rusted on Canes fan for whole time, (even though I not from Wellington) they were my team when Super started and being a boring bastard they always will be.
I do think tickets are overpriced, but I go to games in Sydney, I'll usually go to Chiefs, Blues and Canes (because my mates follow them) when they're here.
I was relating to mariners story because I feel the same about the Canes who are supposedly my home team. But, I was at Waikato when Super started so had similar uni/pub/rugby experiences that mariner had.

no, not even remotely the case

(as an aside, i was talking to Dad about why i just cared so little about the Chiefs now. It's because i left the Chiefs region 22 years ago. Being from BOP I fucking hate Waikato so why support a team based there? There is nothing tying me to them other than nostalgia for $10 tickets to Rugby Park including a jug at the Outback. They are not my home team, a fact that has never been hidden. So why care?)
You could substitute all that for me and the Canes, but add back in the $10 tickets and jug (and sometimes t shirt) from the Outback or the Hilly for me being ok with the Chiefs.

@Nepia I'll admit, I'm not sure of your point anymore.
Rugby isn't NRL.
and something doesnt have to be identical to learn form it
I was just replying to a similar comment from one of your earlier posts.
@Kiwiwomble said in Super Rugby 2024:
thats quitter talk, i dont buy the we cant so lets not try....because the "cant" is subjective
That's not what I'm saying, we can learn from other sports, but we're not going to be able to emulate them as much as we may want to.
@Kiwiwomble said in Super Rugby 2024:

I don't care if all the best players aren't playing every single week.
I like doughnuts.
@Kiwiwomble said in Super Rugby 2024:
@Nepia is the only one that brought up players having to be rested
That's not strictly true, player rests were brought up with the announcement of the new SR CEO before my first post on this theme.
@Kiwiwomble said in Super Rugby 2024:
@Nepia but didn't you just say up above that you dont think the best player should have to play every game?
are you arguing other peoples point?
@Nepia said in Super Rugby 2024:
I have no problem with your point about marketing SR, but I don't think the players have to play every game for the comp to be successful, in fact that requirement is problematic as every comp has injuries etc.
if you're not worried maybe let those that dont like it say so...because it might be different and not as black and white as you think
I don't think every player has to play every game. I think you misinterpreted the post you replied to if you think I think differently.
I'm not stopping anyone from "saying so", I'm just arguing my perspective (I'm sitting at home with Covid that I caught in NZ so I have a little bit more time to argue than usual), just as you and @mariner4life are arguing yours while ganging up on me.
@Kiwiwomble said in Super Rugby 2024:
i think we HAVE to look at other sports....because there are very few successful rugby comps....and we are also talking about a huge overlap in market....so not looking at what
the same people are positively responding too in NRL....is just asking to keep failing
We're in a boom time for the Warriors, would anyone who's ever followed them not agree that the chances of there being a bust are close to 100%?
But, even if remove the Warriors hype and look at the market itself, league is a sport dominated by a single club comp with a dollar investment that NZ rugby can never match so trying to emulate it will likely end in failure.
Like it or not, NZ rugby's bread and butter is the international game. We can't create an NRL, we can't even create a Top 14, we are reliant on the ABs to bring in revenue.
@Kiwiwomble said in Super Rugby 2024:
@Nepia there are those that have said that, i had the same pointed out when ive suggested the top NPC playing super rugby..."but the the best players in the small unions might not play"
..but i hoestly think its very different to not seeing the play 3 days after we've just seen them light up the biggest stage
We're going to have to agree to disagree on that because players missing club/franchise games due to rep footy is the same to me whether in 3 days or due to a players agreement - they're still missing a match either way.
@Kiwiwomble said in Super Rugby 2024:
@Nepia you mentioned, if we try and compare super rugby with NRL, taking breaks and how that annoyed people, i kind of replied to the point and said i felt players not playing club games because theyre playing the next level up is a little different to the ABs that are just rested
BUT
my point before that wasn't about international games being the equivalent of SoO in the calendar (ie mid week)...but more in how we market them, as these huge spectacles players are genuinely honored to be selected for...rather than the internations being their main job and club game almost just to keep them fit
I have no problem with your point about marketing SR, but I don't think the players have to play every game for the comp to be successful, in fact that requirement is problematic as every comp has injuries etc.
I know that I brought the league comparison in response to Winger, but I find it somewhat problematic that we're always comparing rugby to other sports, and how they operate, especially the NRL. They're similar sports, but not the be all and end all, rugby is a test focussed sport and the players union clearly think stand downs are needed for player welfare in "rugby" in the SH. I can handle the Chiefs AB's having the odd week off if it's better for their career longevity. It's not like we have weekends where all the top players are out.
@mariner4life Comparing rugby to NRL is apples and oranges too, but you do you too.
@mariner4life said in Super Rugby 2024:

@Kiwiwomble said in Super Rugby 2024:
@Nepia i think there is a middle ground too be found, international and Franchise/club are different things and should be markets as such, one doesnt need to be subservient to the other. if we can make the franchise game as popular as NRL and then the international game set in where we have State of Origin then we'd be onto something
Yeah, but many players often sit out club games during SoO season and this seems to be the main issue that people complain about when talking about the test player breaks in Super Rugby.
come on you're better than that
Nathan Cleary isn't taking games off in April for SoO, he's taking the game off on the weekend after playing on Wednesday night. Actually the number of guys that front up on the weekend surprises me every year.
The point is that big name players don't play all games, yet I'm constantly hearing complaints that one of the problems with SR is the big name players don't play all games.
Where they take a break really doesn't matter, they're still not playing all games.

Reminds me a bit of when Bitchell would make players who dropped the ball in matches wear gloves all week and other frankly stupid stuff like that.
That wrestling stuff would have probably been par for the course 20 plus years ago but seems pretty counter-productive these days.
