I am on a three day programme, and yesterday I did Day 3. I like to have a day off in between, before starting Day One again. So this morning i just did half an hour of cardio. Pretty pleased with my efforts for the last week. Hopefully I can keep it up for another week. Will post a weigh in on Monday. Hopefully I'll be under 78 kgs.

Day one of my programme is always the hardest, and takes the longest. It involves incline bench press, bench press, reverse flys, shoulder press, french press, those arm pull down things, and abs. I did that this morning, and feel pretty good about it. No time for cardio this morning, but I never do with the Day One programme.

My weigh in this morning was 77.4kgs. I don't really think weight is a good indicator, as I'm more interested in cosmetic results. But at least it's a some sort of indicator of where I'm going. It's very hard to see any changes when you see yourself everyday.

Did lower body weights today - no cardio. Christ it's cold. I can't even believe it. It's very hard to get out of bedl

Cheers RB. I just need to get over that weekly weekend hurdle where I always run out of momentum.

Back into it this morning - Bi's and Back, and some cardio as well.

Looks like I might be doing the Half Marathon in Taupo in August. Anyone got any tips?

Ran for 5kms on the treadmill this morning. It was ok - will wait and see how easily I can walk tomorrow. I don't do a lot of running at all, so I imagine I'll have some repercussions.

Legs sweet from the run yesterday. Even did leg weights this morning, and another 5 min run on the treadmill. Looked at some running shoes last night. They are bloody expensive!

Chest, tris and abs this morning. This work out always takes the longest - and is pretty tough. I was pretty larthargic this morning. Still lose momentum in the weekend, so plenty to work on.

Legs and abs this morning, but no cardio. Chest and tris are very sore from yesterday, which is good.

Did half an hour on the tread mill this morning. Was pretty stuffed. Have a shitload of work to do before I can go anywhere near a half marathon.

Same here, although I'm used to it now. You can definitely lift more in the afternoon after a day of ingesting carbs, energy etc. Unfortunatley you have to do what you're gonna stick with though, and if I don't go to the gym in the morning I won't go at all. Will probably cut back on the weights a little now that I'm training for this half marathon. Don't know for sure. Cheers for the encouragement!

Dead right Milk, gotta do what you can. Trained with a rep rugby player a year or two back in the mornings, to give hima training partner, and you soon get used to it. NOT a lot of conversation goes on at 6 in the AM though!!

It's particularly tough with Winter too - you just want to stay in bed.

Biked to the gym yesterday - that was new. Don't do a lot of biking, and it will take a lot of getting used to. Yesterday I did chest and tris.

This morning I did legs.

I think I'm going to get a new programme next week - I've been on this one for a while.

This morning I did back and bi's, and even did 15 minutes on the treadmill afterwards - which i am supposed to do anyway but usually gets flagged because I am running late.

I ran 7km on the treadmill this morning - which, sadly, is the farthest I have ever run. I'll have to get on the road at some point, and apparently that is a lot harder.

    GYM REASSESSMENT:

Weight: 76.7kg
Body Fat: 14.05%

Slight improvement, but nothing to write home about. Have gained 400grams lean muscle mass, so am pretty happy about that at keast.

My goal, starting next week with my programme shows, is to begin training in earnest for this half marathon. I haven't done a lot of running, so it should really shock the system. I want to improve fitness so I can complete the marathon. However, I really just want to use the marathon as motivation to get through my plateau and reduce body fat and improve definition. I have just bought some whey protein, and thermogenic fat burning capsules, so hopefully I can start making some good progress.

Ran 10 kms on the treadmill. A definite PB! Took me about 55 minutes. It's going to be tough to transfer that to the road though.

Had a deliberately slow start to the week this week, as I'm pretty sure I am coming down with something. The gym instructer took me through my new programme on Monday and Tuesday. It's an interesting one for me, with more technical exercises than I'm used to. For example the bench press and deadlifts. I'm looking forward to getting better at these, but definitely have to take it slow to make sure I do them right till I get used to them. Even with just doing one set with the instructor my chest was tight for days, so it looks like this programme will be a really good one.

Last night I went for my first road run in preparation for the half marathon. Up till now I have limited myself to just the treadmill, and was dreading trying the road. I was happy to run 7kms, and it wasn't as bad as I thought. I'd like to break 10kms within the next week, and that will be a real challenge. I was also stoked to have busted out any exercise at all yesterday as it was looking like I had written it off as a 'bad day'.

This morning I tried day one of my programme for the first time. It was good, and I got through it pretty quickly. I'll have to see how I feel tomorrow to give a proper assessment.

As a side note I got a free box of protein bars when I bought my last tub of protein. I tried one for the first time this morning, and they really are gross...
