    Help!<br />

    Short story - I need to drop maximum weight in minumum time.<br />

    Long story -  I have just over a month till a big music festival at Byron Bay and just over 2 months till a trip to Brazil. I am 21 and should be at optimum fitness, yet two years of no organised sport and a steady diet of crap and my weight has ballooned to around the 100kg mark, I should be around 85-90kg. I have started by cutting out carbs, (apart from the KFC i smashed on Sat night) and have recently acquired a bar to do some curls and I don't mind doing sit-ups. <br />

    Any tips/pointers/meal suggestions would be gold...

    It's a pretty simple equation really.<br />
    Energy in  &  Energy out<br />
    Maximise your energy output with lots of cardio activity.<br />
    This should be at least a half hour in duration, but build it up as quickly as you can.<br />
    If your not up to running, then get on a bike, or simply go for a walk.<br />
    It isn't complicated.<br />

    With regard to your eating, or 'energy in' side of things, it all comes down to common sense really.<br />
    <br />
    If you need help in the eating area, join Weight Watchers.<br />
    The money you spend on the weekly meetings (about $16) will easily pay for itself out of the money you will save at cafes etc.<br />
    If you're worried that it seems a chick thing, don't, there are heaps of blokes at my centre, and lots of young blokes too.<br />
    It's a great option for those that require the extra motivation of getting on the scales in front of someone each week. (Like me)

    Yeah mate of mine joined Weightwatchers and lost 15 kg inside 4 months. Nothing wrong with it.<br />

    GF, my advice is get out for a run or at least a brisk walk before breakfast. Eat a high-carb brekky when you get in - cereals have lots of carb because they're grain-based. Have a bowl of 2-3 weetbix with a banana chopped up on it, and two slices of toast with vegemite and a 500mL OJ every morning. The fibre will help you shit too <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rolleyes:' /><br />

    Then don't have a solid lunch - graze all day on small things e.g. for work pack an apple, banana, sandwich (something simple like ham and grated cheese) and a small salad (get these from Coles/Woolies prepackaged). Have one every 1.5 hours and plenty of water.<br />
    <br />
    At night, have a solid (but not huge) dinner comprosing mostly vegetables with about 200-300g of meat (alternate between beef, pork, and chicken) and do some pushups and crunches until you can't take no more.<br />
    <br />
    You should drop about 5kg in the first month doing this, and then it'll plateau out as your muscle gains start appearing and putting lean muscle on you.

    with your bar too, curls, shoulder press - get a swiss ball and then you can bench press and do those tricep pullover things - upper body all buffed up ready for when the fat is gone!!

    When I was trying to lose weight I stopped having carbs for dinner, and did 40mins -1hr of cardio in the morning before breakfast. I thought that worked well for the purpose of solely losing weight. When I wanted to tone up etc I obviously had to start doing some other shit as well.

    Just noticed this...200-300g sounds like a hell of a lot to me?  I never eat more than 100g of meat in a meal, usually less, which my flatmate tells me is the most I should ever be eating in one sitting.<br />

    My flatmate is a meat-hating tree-hugger who won't buy more than 100g each per dinner of meat because it's too expensive (lovely girl though really) but her mother is a dietician so I tend not to argue with her.

    The money you save is definitely significant, even to a New South Welshman on five figures. Meat is not something I miss in terms of taste, except in pies.

    Perhaps if you're looking at an average no-exercise diet that gets the rest of its protein from half a kilogram of lentils at a sitting while wearing a kaftan and dancing to tambourine music. Is this the same flatmate-whose-mother-is-a-dietician that I have derided in the past? :nta Fucking hippies. Most medicine (including diet management) is not an exact science. The man is trying to lose flab and one of the best ways is to build muscle. The best source of protein for this is red meat, and 200g every other day (mixed with pork and chicken) will not kill you, provided you have a decent amount of fibre and masticate properly. I'm feeding an athlete here, not a fucking rabbit.<br />

    Interesting, I will seek to redress this by eating a bit more meat for lunch when she's not around.<br />

    I was cooking 200g of scotch fillet on Saturday night and she came in and said "you're going to eat that all yourself?!?!".  I sure did, with some curried rice and rocket salad and fuck me it went down a treat.  <br />

    I try to have her up about her rabbit-like dietary requirements but she always replies with "shut up, my mother is a dietician".<br />

    So GF, did you lose the weight?  And I thought the Byron Bay festival was in April?
