Been jogging 5 kms four or five times a week [stress relief during the break up-if you had an ex like mine you'd run too]for the past year and kept the intake of rubbish food down so I don't need to lose any weight.I just signed up with a gym and I was wondering how long you generally have to work out for before you start noticing some changes, definition etc?

    Hey Jegga,
If you feel like a dramtic change have a go at the 12 week Body For Life challenge. I completed it in May, lost 12 kilos, can now fit clothes that I havent been able to squeeze into for years and for a big fella can know even see the faintest hint of some abs.
My aerobic fitness went through the roof and my strength levels increased also.
Cheers, I'll have a look at the site.I've already trimmed down and I don't want to lose anymore weight just get more definition in my arms and chest.

Gotta love having to buy a new belt etc when you've shed those extra pounds.

Good stuff mate. You will muscle up on BFL as well and get great cuts and definition if you adhere to the training and eating plans religiously.

differs for everyone depending on the routine, diet, frequency etc.
i saw results pretty quickly (under 2 weeks) but i also live in fairy tale land. small hints like abs appearing under the flab are v encouraging, i think the abs are one of the muscle groups where quick wins are v possible.
getting definition on arms takes a bit longer - for me it took 6-8 weeks for it to be noticable, but building them up takes longer still. as an example, arnie said when he was younger, he could rely on getting an 1/4" on his arms each month. take into account his hellish regime and his obsession with bodybuilding and its probably fair to say that we would take at least twice as long (and then again, only if your technique is spot on).

I meant to add I've been kayaking too. It's not so much an exercise for the arms but more the abs , lats and thighs.Recommended.

I usually notice within about 2 weeks that muscles are tightening up and becoming more prominent. 4 weeks is usually the point where other people notice.
If you want to treat yourself without worrying[too much] about putting on weight put a low fat plain yoghurt in the freezer until its frozen and chuck it in the microwave for 30 seconds when you want to eat it.
