Fatbastarding: NTA log
My calves are really hurting this morning and it definitely teaches you that you can pedal as far as you like on the bike, it just ain't the same as ground impact.
<br />
<br />
Yeah, unfortunately. Then, once you've come to this realisation, you also realise that jogging is no match for actual matchplay and by then it's too late :happy: -
Dammit MvJ I was trying to hide that fact from my brain! <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> I'm going to start mixing up my training now - bike 1-2 times per week, then down the oval with a mixture of jogging and kicking practice, and probably joining up at the gym again to do some weights work. This should provide a better overall fitness plan but I am on a downslope in terms of motiviation at present.
-
Me too. MvJ will have to kick-start the fat-busting once more... <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Went for a 45 minute walk/run last night... mostly walknig :shifty: About 5km all up, probably only a few hundred of which was running :nta Regular testing of heart rate showed it to be in the 130-140 bpm region and I sweated like a fat bastard, not surprisingly. Calves still hurt this morning but didn't experience any ankle roll thanks to use of better shoes. My grass shoes are going in the bin.
-
I do a bit post-exercise but nothing pre. I believe I should be able to adequately 'warm up' my calf muscles by walking <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> All other muscles are fine - its just a spot about halfway up the back of my lower leg that hurts, not the whole thing.

I am thinking that explains all the desperate PMs Mrs NTA is sending at the moment.<br />
<br />
NTA, if you know nothing else, you surely know to warm it up before you get stuck in?<br />
<br />
(Love your log tho, honest and fullsome, it's great). -

Just one word for ya NTA: " Cleo"<br />

Pffft. Magazine written by women who are just trying to sell something. There can't be THAT many types of orgasm in the world. NTA has tried the romantic approach, the passionate approach, the sit-and-wait, the loving and caring shit. NTA's conclusion is: alcohol and a night off from minding the Little Aussie are the only things that work, preferably in combination.<br />
<br />
<br />
Back to the fatbastarding: NTA hopped on the scales after mowing the lawn and doing the housework (Mrs the Aussie having the morning off at a beauty treatment <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/rolleyes.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />) to discover he is down to 115kg! Yay me :happy: -
Yesterday afternoon's exercise was re-setting the stand for my 1000 litre rainwater tank. Probably ended up lifting about 500kg all up after draining the tank, clearing all existing brickwork and then putting it back in better order on a levelled surface. Not a bad job if one does say so, with the new stand being very solid and supportive. My back was stuffed at the end but feels OK today. Lots of deadlift style work there.<br />
<br />
Measurements this morning:<br />
<br />
Chest: 120cm<br />
Gut: 116cm (1cm loss)<br />
Butt: 124cm (1cm loss)<br />
<br />
Must be where that couple of kilos came from <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> -
NTA feels obliged to report that he did no exercise today beyond getting smacked in the balls by the 5 year old progeny of a friend in the family.<br />
<br />
Beyond that, NTA drank rather a lot of scotch over dinner, followed by a glass of some average Sangiovese, followed by a glass of Penfold's 1998 Sangiovese that NTA had cellared for 5 years and was fucking awesome as a result. Intermixed that is, with the odd Johnny Walker Red and Coke Zero mixer. A tip for the mixer fiends out there - the lack of sugar in Coke Zero really allows the taste to come through in your preferred spirit so if you like your scotch but want the caffeine, Coke Zero is the way to go. I could taste smoke even on the JW Red.<br />
<br />
NTA is somewhat tipsy and planning an assault on Mrs TA's virtue. Either that or a nightcap of my Glenlivet and Coke Zero. -
Cricket beat both Mrs TA's virtue and Glenlivet. I feel like such a fat bastard having done no exercise since Saturday arv. I really must get the bearings on the bike fixed, or go down the oval for another run... tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya, tomorrow, you're only a day awayyyyyy....

Decided to go to the gym to kickstart the next cycle in fitness. Had a protein shake half an hour before and after, and a protein bar immediately after the workout with half a litre of water, and another half litre when arriving home. Felt pretty good all up. Only had 40 minutes until closing time, so covered:<br />
<br />
Bench Press - 6 x 60kg; 6 x 80kg<br />
Dumbell Press - 10 x 25kg per arm<br />
45o incline leg press - 6 x 100kg left leg, then 6 x 100kg right leg; 8 x 260kg both legs; 6 x 300kg both legs<br />
Deadlift - 6 x 30kg; 8 x 60kg; 6 x 90kg which started to hurt....<br />
Dumbell shoulder press - 10 x 12.5kg per arm; 10 x 15kg per arm<br />
Seated row - 6 x 45kg; 2 x 73kg resistance (slow release); 5 x 56kg<br />
<br />
Covered most of the major muscle groups without doing arms specifically but there's a fair bit of bi and tri work in the seated row and bench press respectively. Dead lifts are starting to feel real good and am considering a gym membership in order to mix it up a bit - deadlifts Tuesday night, squats Thursday night etc to make it easy on what has been a historically weak back. -
Great work Nick....the weights you are pumping out on the leg press in particular, indicate you must be quite the powerful unit? Anyway, I like your strategy of varying the different modes of training, seems to be doing good. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

I've good pretty good power for the lower body but the upper body still needs a lot of work. Its the back that's mainly the problem. My PB for leg press is 5x400kg (which I need a couple of weeks' warmup training to achieve... while trying not to have my colon launch out my ring) but around the same time I did squats and only got to about 80kg which showed I wasn't doing enough work on the back. My technique for leg press is probably the best part of my whole workout - drive through the heels, don't lock the legs out, take it slow on the way down.<br />
<br />
My ultimate goal with the weights is to achieve the following minimums in sets of 6 or more:<br />
<br />
120kg Bench Press<br />
200kg Squat<br />
120kg Deadlift<br />
Unassisted Chinups<br />
Unassisted Dips<br />
<br />
The last two are the big issue because under my previous body weight of 120kg I couldn't even do one of each! Well maybe one dip but that was it. -

Cricket can help. Here's something I did occasionally in the past (quite rare now that I'm in Chicago) - grab half a dozen or so tennis balls, cover them partially in duct tape (at least one complete layer of tape around most of the ball, then a second partial layer around half the ball to get some weight imbalance). <br />
<br />
Find a net (proper length), set of stumps - do a few warmups to start, then run in and just keep bowling for about 45 minutes or so, or until you feel like dropping. For fat burning/muscle building, it doesn't have the same effect as weights or a good sprint, but far easier to keep motivated (especially if you can get someone to stand down the other end and take on your bowling. If it's a bad batsman, you'll be amazed at how energised you feel <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />). Lot more fun, and does a lot for stamina as well; especially when done in heat. <br />
<br />
Plus it might even help your bowling. That's one fun thing about a taped tennis ball - it'll move around FAR more than a cricket ball (if taped properly) and swing like mad once scuffed up just a bit, and it's also heavy enough to give the arms/shoulder a bit of exercise too. -
MvJ will bat.
