@foobaNZ I heard the NZCIS recovery setup is amazing. If he works hard and uses all the opportunity that facility holds, he could be at the lower end. Let’s hope so.

Hopefully we get him back for the playoffs. That’s 7 weeks away.

Interesting that Aaron Cruden turned down an SOS call from the Crusaders after their 10 woes this year.
When did this happen ? It is the First I have heard about it.

@Bones lol I know, still, how are the Chiefs still at even odds with the Blues and Canes? Doesn't really make sense to me. Recent results would suggest they'd be paying slightly higher. The bookmakers haven't adjusted the Chiefs odds for a few games now.
-
@ruggabee Penney also had a crap record with the Waratah's which makes you think maybe he's just a poor coach and doesn't know how to get the best out of his players.
Justin Marshall said on the Breakdown on Sunday that he'll be very surprised if Penney gets the boot, that isn't how the Crusader's operate apparently, but then I thought to myself that the Crusaders simply don't usually lose this bad either so anything's possible.
-
@Duluth can they really keep backing Penney if the Saders don't make the playoffs though? I know the Saders have had their struggles, but they still have the cattle to make it into the top 8. Would be a massive failure if they don't.

4 Ben Grant (Hurricanes): A classic tight five outing for the second-row who made a whopping 16 tackles whilst commanding the line-out taking all his throws and stealing one from the Drua. His complete performance gets in ahead of powerhouse Blues veteran Patrick Tuipulotu.
I like the look of Grant, he looks to have a bit more size on him compared to when he was with the Legion last year in the MLR. He performed his role well and even stole a couple lineouts from the Drua. Not a bad guy to have in your squad tbh, would prefer him to Josh Tuala.
-
@Tim the person manning the odds is obviously a Chiefs fan. How are they equal with the Blues and Canes?

Highlights from Petone's win over OBU on Saturday.
Petone's side featured a raft of current/former Super Rugby and NPC players including Harry Godfrey, Riley Higgins, Ngani Punvai, Losi Filipo, TJ Clarke, Belgium Tuatagaloa and Kaliopasis Uluilakepa. Petone also have Brad Shields, Peter Lakai and Logan Henry in their ranks so pretty stacked if all those players were available at the same time.

@Winger Aumua is going to be a massive loss and probably the one player (aside from maybe Lomax) we couldn't afford to really lose. O'Reilly has been solid but it's Aumua's physicality that will be miss most. Aswell as the fact he's been in career best form.
It's hard to gauge Tuputupu because he hasn't really played much over the last couple seasons. Based on pre-season form he looked solid but he's still really green and will be a massive drop from Aumua. Fingers crossed the injury isn't as bad as first feared. It seems like injuries might be the only thing stopping the Canes this year.

@gt12 based on Saturday’s performance I doubt the Canes are shaking in their boots. Still doesn’t change the fact the competition structure is cooked. I said the same thing last year when the Canes weren’t doing as well. They need to change it to at least a 6 team playoff, whoever made it 8 is a moron. Likely NZ bowing down to Aus again.
-
@MN5 I wouldn't know because I don't really watch league but probably.
-
@Duluth Super Rugby need to change the playoff system if they ever want this competition to be credible. The fact that a team with 1 win and 7 losses still has a chance of making the playoffs makes this comp a laughing stock atm. It's a comp that rewards poor performance. Should be top 6 or top 4 considering there is only 12 teams.

On Friday at 1pm at the NZCIS, there is a match between the New Zealand U20s squad and the Hurricanes Hunters (Development) team.

I think the Blues will win the competition this year. They have a top coach in Cotter and a very talented squad. They also have lots of players on top of their game and no obvious weaknesses.
This season will probably end in tears for the Canes. That said, I'm going to enjoy every moment of the Hurricanes doing so well for how ever long it lasts.
Have a little faith mate, we've literally made the best start to a season in our history and you're already saying it will end in tears. The Blues have as much PTSD from falling in the playoffs as we do so it won't be necessarily smooth sailing for them either.
I honestly think whoever gets home advantage through the playoff stages will win it, there isn't much between the Canes and Blues for me. The Canes are just as settled as the Blues with proven combinations right across the park which is crucial.
The match on May 11 between both sides is going to be huge. Whoever wins that might not necessarily win the title, but it will be a huge steppingstone to hopefully greater things.

Comfortable win, never in doubt.
-
If Robertson picks a whole heap of overrated Crusaders i.e Grace instead of Lakai and Iose he deserves all he gets. We won’t be winning much that’s for sure.
-
A big coup for the Waratahs, Andrew Kellaway has signed for them from next year through until the WC. That will offset the loss of Marky Mark.
I wonder if this is the first of many players getting away from the Rebels financial issues.
-
@sparky the youth of this squad isn’t an excuse, they’ve been together now for 3-4 seasons.
