Building myself back up

Swimming in the pm. Again personal training because the other pikers didn't show up. I get that this dude likes to push me but I'm not 20 anymore! Started off with 300 then went 5x100 and 5x100IM. Butterfly is a bitch. Then 6x25 Max efforts. I try not to take any breaths on these so times good but it sure takes it out of you. Then 400m kickboard then 4 last Max efforts. Slept like a log.

@Rancid-Schnitzel listening to how hard the coach is I get why the other dudes aren't showing up!!

I think he gets sick of having to train kids and enjoys thrashing the adults. He's far chirpier when it's just me. I just want to get it done while some of the others can't shut tfu. You see that sometimes with PTs as well. There seems to be way too much talk and not enough action.

Fark, Wednesday already. Legs this morning. Feel pretty wobbly so must have done ok. Swimming tonight will be interesting.
Speaking of which I was in the parents/coaches relay at the carnival on Sunday. Didn't go that well. I was chosen to anchor, which I was rather chuffed about, but after the coach gave us a great start, we were about half a pool length behind when I went in. Was so weird. I had no farking idea where the other dude was and couldn't tell if I was getting anywhere near him. My tumbleturn was a bit dodgy, but I didn't let up. Got to the end to find the other bastard already there. Fark it. My youngest son was sitting pool side and the only thing he said was "you should have gone faster". As if to turn the knife he also said that my coach has much better muscles than me 😂. Can you feel the love. I was absolutely farked. The combination of nervous energy and giving it all really took it out of me. Would like to do it again, but with a bit more preparation and less pressure. Have to work on dive and turns though. Very ordinary.

@Rancid-Schnitzel it's also a whole different kettle of fish when you are actually competing. On my (one and only) 10km timed race I learnt a harsh lesson about how different it is to going for a run on your own. And that was only competing against myself rather than some other buggers.
Ha ha sweet burn from your lad. I hope you held his head under water for a bit!

Felt like it. That boy keeps me on my toes. Only need to get slightly out of shape and that little gremlin will tell me about it. There's brutal honesty and then there's him.

Wednesday night swim. Unfortunately asthma becoming and issue with the colder weather but just had to keep calm and relax. Otherwise young bastard hammered me again. There was another woman there who is very nice but kept bitching the whole time. My back, so tired etc. etc. She's only like 28 ffs. I'm supposed to be the old one. One advantage is that she never shuts up and the distraction can result in a longer break between sets.
This am: Chest and biceps. Yeah not bad. Bit rushed but damn I have the guns workout down pat. Absolutely mint.
Swimming tonight. Was up at 4:30 to take eldest to swimming so reckon I'll be pretty farked by the end of it. Wish I could eat like him. His breakfast/lunch was 8 rolls, 2 apples, 2 muesli bars, 4 donuts, protein powder and 2 lemon lamingtons. Lucky bastard just burns that shit off.

@Rancid-Schnitzel fark! Lucky bugger! Sheesh bro you are an ace dad to be managing those early starts!

Well I'm a dad. Not sure if I'm an ace one but I try my best. Hopefully the gf will move in at the end of the year and that will take some of the pressure off.

Was bloody cold and windy as hell this morning, but managed to drag my sorry rump to swimming. Was a decent session and wasn't killed too much. Pool is heated but it's still pretty cold when you first get in. My son tells me his school pool is lovely and warm which will at least keep complaints down to a minimum. People in Brisbane are ridiculous about the cold though. The coach had thermals, beanie, hoodie, great coat and ugg boots on. Hope he never moves to Wellington or Invercagill.

Mother's Day never very easy so we went to one of those bounce places which also had a ninja warrior section. Got really into the ninja warrior part and had a great time. Only problem was getting up this morning and having to swim. Pool session was probably the best thing for it, but arms and shoulders aching like a beatch. Had to cut it short and just do some slow stuff/kickboard. Was worried about the rotator cuff but it seems OK, just really farking sore.
-
No chance of upper body today or anything touching the shoulders so went legs. Obviously no deads, lunges or squats but still hammered out a decent session. Not as sore as yesterday but will be interesting to see if I can lift tommorrow morning.
-
Avoided the morn training yesterday and waited for the evening swimming. Soreness pretty much gone and was a good session. Young bastard had me in that bloody drag suit again so was blasted, but that's what you want. Chest and biceps today. Didn't want to overdo it, but still decent workout.

So swimming Thursday night which was great. Felt like shite beforehand but felt amazing afterwards. Exercise is a hell of a drug!
Dropped Friday absolutely gone, but got up super early on Sat to back and tris at gym then go straight to swimming. Was alot of sprints but really hit the spot. Sunday was a very long walk with the gf (man I'm lucky, what a find). Back in pool this morning and was hoping for an easyish sesh but the handsome young bastard had other plans. Following warmup we had 400m, 50max, 50 easy, 300m, 50max, 50 easy, 200, 100 etc. 10 seconds rest after the max efforts otherwise nothing. Absolutely buggered today.
Eating wise I'm planning to cut out sugar for a month and see how I go. I usually indulge on Saturdays but will cut that out completely. Bit of an experiment.
-
@Rancid-Schnitzel sounds like you are getting plenty of the good kind of sugar anyways!!
-
Needed sleep so couldn't hit the gym yesterday morning but got the boys dinner ready early and then hit gym straight before pool. Was legs so went OK. Probably better getting them straight in the pool rather than after a day or two. Didn't mind this session too much but the 50m Max efforts in the middle are brutal. Carnt times it so can shame you if you try and let up.
This morning was ok chest and biceps. Swimming again tonight. Loving all this but need more sleep.
-
Think Friday has to be my designated rest day. Buggered and sore. Swimming last night. Head coach and former Olympian took over. Good bloke. Did a mix of stuff which tbh wasn't as bad as the young bastards, but the 10x100m with 10sec in between was a cnut.
Shouldn't complain though. My eldest had to go 60x100m yesterday. Yep, that is 6km. He was severely Friar Tucked after that.

@Rancid-Schnitzel shudder to think what your food bill would be. You guys must mow through the kai!

Youngest isn't so bad yet but eldest is ridiculous. Luckily he prefers quantity over quality so I get off pretty lightly. There is also a school mother who works at a big supermarket chain who nabs heaps of bakery stuff that they want to chuck out. That makes a big difference because eldest eats 6-8 rolls for lunch each day. I also live off chicken and rice so I'm a cheap overhead. One of those dudes selling that Home Fresh or whatever it is where they send stuff to your house was at the door yesterday and I just had to laugh. Eldest would inhale most of a family meal.
-
Up early for gym then swimming. Really liking this double-up. Back and tris then a pretty good set. Quite a few people which was nice and meant less focus on destroying me.
Sugar diet going OK. Youngest's birthday party so candy abounds, but I have stood firm!
