@dogmeat, nice one!
This might be a test for those old enough to remember the 1980s ... it used to be a christmas thing (at least in Oz, I'm guessing maybe NZ also) to put out some booze to thank the garbos emptying the bins. Probably meant they had to do extra trips to collect especially if there were full beer cartons.
Obviously the days of physically lifting bins are no more - so it doesn't really work well now. But some still give it a go.
