Movie review thread...
Well just walked out of my first movie, well I think ever. Angels and Demons, truly awful. *<br />

Watched it at home on Friday. What a POS. I knew it was going to be crap, as I hated the Da Vinci Code movie as well. No way in hell either was ever going to live up to the books. I also watched Knowing. Yet another meh movie staring Nicholas Cage. Basic story is he and his kid come across a piece of paper from a time capsule that predicts the future, and then scary spooky events and figuring out their role in it ensues. 5 out of 10.

Pride and Glory: Talk about fetchin potential for a movie (Norton, Voight, Farrel - I don't usually like him but thought In Bruge would be a turning point), and yep it was cabbage.<br />
<br />
Does Nicolas Cage owe bookies/drug dealers/ex wives/various children lots of money? Because man he turns out lots of movies - mostly cruddy these days.<br />
<br />
I was thinking that Angels and Demons would be a better movie, but then I read it before Da Vinci Code and they're essentially the same book. Why did you watch it Rusty, if you didn't like the first? -

Girlfriend wanted to watch it, so we did. -
I watched This Is England the other day, on the reccomendation of a friend. I thought it was very good, has no big name actors, but all play their parts well. <br />
It's basically the story of 12/13 year old growing up in England in 1983, with Thatcher and the Falklands War as the back drop. He gets involved with a group of teenage skinheads, which then leads to his affiliation with 'Combo', who promotes his white supremacist/ nationalist agenda within the teenagers. <br />
<br />
A somewhat depressing coming of age tale thats very well done, uncomfortable viewing at times, but a brilliantly told story, that gives an insight into both the growth of the nationalist movement after the Falklands and the rise of 'thug' culture in Britain. <br />
<br />
Released in 2006, its timing was poignant as the issue of British multiculturalism was brought to public attention in the wake of the 7/7 Bomings the previous year.<br />

I thought it was a bloody good film. I would just mention that the group he hung out with at first weren't racists/nationalists, but just a bunch of people who hang out together and listen to music etc. I think it the movie shows the change well.<br />
<br />
The little boy on it kind of scared me though - I thought he was younger than 12-13. -
I caved to my son's pressure yesterday and watched Walk Hard - The Dewy Cox story. It was so lame it was actually funny in places. It is a total rip off of Walk The Line with cameos by quite a few comedians such as Jack Black. The Beatles scene is really funny.

<br />
As a spoof movie I think it's the best since the original Scary Movie and Hot Shots. <br />
The actor is a pretty good actor/singer as well. <br />
<br />
I was slapping my leg all over the place during the Beatles scene. -
Yeah it was funny. It's a very similar style of comedy to Will Farrell's - Talledaga Nights and Semi Pro come to mind.

Yes my mistake Nepia. I dont think any of the younger generation of the skinheads were racists or nationalists (hence why Woody left when Combo pressed his agenda), just sought social acceptance which they didnt receive otherwise. The young boy who got bullied joined, the fat teenager who got picked on joined etc. <br />
<br />
Yeah he looked about 8, but aparently he was 12 in the film (according to Wikipedia), and 13 in real life when it was shot. The scene of him with that older girl reminded me of that story about the 13 year old father a while back.....disturbing stuff.<br />

Great film nonetheless <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> -
Pineapple Express - um, waste of time TBH. <br />
<br />
Stoner movie, might be funny if you were stoned I guess? Were a couple of bits I laughed at, but basically pretty poo. -

Yup they pisstake Walk the line, and The Doors movie, Bob Dylan gets mocked, Bowie gets discofied... the lyrics are hilarious if you bother looking them up too. Jack Black meh, the guy who rips off John Lennon is funnier imo. -
Both my kids are saying that The Hangover is hillarious. One's 19 and ones 16 (my kids that is) and they watched it separately at the moviews with mates so I'm thinking it must be okay.

Watched The Spirit and it sucked the kumara
<br />
<br />
Excellent, my instincts about not watching that one were right...<br />
<br />
What doesn't kill you<br />
<br />
Ethan Hawke, Mark Ruffalo & cameos (is that all he does) of Donnie Wahlberg<br />
<br />
Decent enough story line of 2 brothers that carry on the tradition of petty crime and thuggary in a Boston neighbourhood, until one decides he has had enough. A bit on the slow side 5.9/10
<br />
<br />
Haven't heard of that one, it sounds good (although only just average by your rating), I like the Boston set movies from my time living there. Donnie Walhberg is brilliant in Band of Brothers, he's probably a better actor than his brother but just doesn't get the good roles.
<br />
<br />
rating more due to the pace of the movie, as I said, storyline is fine.
<br />
<br />
So I just finished watching it - I really enjoyed it, was a bit slow though, solid 7.5 from me.<br />
Was surprised to read that it was based on the directors life (he played their boss) - makes a bit more interesting.<br />
<br />
Spoiler:<br />
[spoiler:wh9gpm2i]I'm glad they didn't go all Hollywood and make Paulie go nuts at Brian at the end - it's good they kept it real.[/spoiler:wh9gpm2i]<br />
<br />
Donnie Wahlberg, co wrote and produced - I guess he's still got a bit of NKOTB money floating around and can get by with bit parts in movies and roles in short tv series'.<br />
<br />
Quite a few actors from Brotherhood were in it as well. -
Cross-posted from the Confederations Cup thread...<br />
<br />
If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend watching "Once in a Lifetime: The Extraordinary Story of the New York Cosmos," which not only tells a remarkable and hilarious story about soccer's struggle to get a foothold in the USA, but also foreshadows what professional soccer would become for the biggest teams (Barca, Real, ManU, Chelsea, etc.) in the elite professional leagues in the rest of the world. 8/10.<br />

Well I got sucked in. Transformers II was my last foray into the wellington boys night out before I pull stumps and head for warmer pastures(or greener) in Tauranga. Me mates thought it would be a good farewell,movie,curry,mass consumption of liquid anything and strip clubs. Because this movie was a steaming pile of dog shit we all lost the will to live and went home after one beer.<br />
<br />
Its ok I told the missus i'll need another night out to redeem ourselves but avoid this movie..too long,too much cgi and not enough of megan fox! -
Far Cry, based on a video game, of genetically modified soldiers...started off really bad, but ended up alrighht 5.5/10

Harold & Kumar escape from Guantanamo Bay...<br />
