'We knocked the bastard off'
-
Hooked, is mentally draining - and having to get right for nationals just 15 days after the first comp insane. Mrs was ready to chuck it in on Monday, I was still amped - have been a closet BB forever - typical male I s'pose! You just need time to recover mental and physical well being after the comp - is tough over the last fortnight, and the last week dehydrating, the last 3 or 4 days, insane. Comp day - brilliant - I'll write what I scoffed in a moment...!

It will be much easier to do a comp mid year, and then if qualifying, nationals at this time of year, and that is the current plan. Maintain a lower bodyweight obviosuly, not back up to 97kg for me or 64 for Mrs B!! I think late 80s for me, and late 50s for Mrs B will be comfy and allow a beer or two at the right times!

Offseason bulking- I am not allowed (in athletic grade) to be more than80.5kg. If I go up to physique, than it is anything goes - but that is the big boys. Although one of the judges did come and talk to us between the morning and afternoon sessions asking if we were going to go to nationals (this is before the results were announced in the afternoon show, so we knew we had done well), and I in general chatter I said it is always a worry haveing to be a certain weight, and the judge replied that I would have been more than competitive in physique (at Wellington) with my good symetry - lots of the big boys are freaky upper and nothing below and the like.

Pressure time though, out trainer who was not at the show when she saw the photos was 'blown away', she could not believe how well we looked on the day. She has pumped us up no end - calling on me to win the novice athletic tall at the nationals, and with a real chance at the overall title (that is judged against all the athletic categories, short, tall, open and masters grades), and Ness to at least be placing in the over 35s figure - she would have won her division if she had got her posing on the money. We also got that statement from one of the judges too who came down specially to say that to us. Also a top chance to take out the pairs contest. But time will tell on all of those calls eh, the ball is now in our court to get everything right.

Kirwan - I can hardly notice any difference in those before and after photos xzxcool

Anyway, match day food intake...

Breakfast which was at about 6am: 200g steak and 200g kumara

then weigh in for comp at 10 - weight was 78.4 in track pants and tee shirt, so prop more like 77.4, either way, was under required, so pressure off, time to start eating..

first - Snickers Bar straight after weigh in, then another at 11, and another at 12. Also eating between them rice cakes withn honey spread on them. Probably about a packets worth.

Then show starts, so backstage, changed, and pump up time. So into the Jelly Beans - and I mean into them - heaps as you pump up (tahnks MN5 for the dbells). Also a few nips of Glavya to get the blood pumping and veins popping.

Then on stage and through the compulsory poses with the other competitors, and once that is over, your morning is done.

Straight after coming off stage a HPLC protein bar (YUM) while watching the Mrs do her stuff, or was it two - I can't remember, I was in a frenzy! Also half a king size bar of energy chocolate while getting changed after morning show.

then between shows is back on diet plan - veg and chicken, although not really interested in food - we were both still to excited and pumped from our first morning show!

we then rock back to venue to get ready for evening show. So back into the Snickers (2 more), and a moro gold (Mrs B's) in about 90 minutes (might have been overdoing it, will have to ask trainier on the afternoon build up!), and then backstage to pump a half hour before due back onstage.

This time the athletic lineup went onstage and rushed through the compulsories for the crowd, and then individual routines to music. Once that was done, it was prize time, and gold for bartley!! As soon as I was off stage it was stragith to the changing sheds, grab a HPLC bar, and out to the audience to watch the Mrs do her routine and pick up her silver. I think I was more gutted than she was.

We then jumped in and did our pairs routine, which for me was the most fun on the night by miles!

Once that was done it was back down to get ready for the overall Athletic category judging. So more pumping up, more Jellybeans, and while I was pumping, an Oh-Yeah protein bar. The backstage crew screwed up, and next minute we hear "athletic back on stage please", so I was still chewing as I went on. We were given 5 minute warnings all through, but they cokced up. The overall is judged on the night, so these poses counted for something, the symetry and compulsories. Once that was done, off stage again, no results yet.

So back off stage, had a nip with the other athletic category winners, and then all winners of everything on stage, and overall winners announced, and gold again!

Post contest, as we had to get our bodies back together quickly, it was lots of salty food, but basically anything goes. So pretzels, mixed nuts, peanuts (those onces covered with something you get in the pix /n/ mix bins, some jellied sugar coated lollies, caramel chews, Russian Fudges, chocolate chip cookes and anything lying around was thrown into my mouth!!

WE then went to the Green Parrot in Welly, and I ordered a mixed Grill, an OJ, a pineapple juice and a Steine Pure. Mrs got a Schnitzel. Neither of us finished our meals, stomachs too bloated. There was also plenty of bread on the table too that was demolished.

Superb days eating. Although next day and that night belly felt bloated, and weight when arrived back home on Tuesday 86kg. Apparently body retains water like mad after being starved of it. Now back down to 82.4 this morning, on track for nationals again. but we had to get the water and food back into body or it would have started eating into the muscle and we would have not looked so good at nationals. So bloody hard yakka this short turnaround.

Questions please.... xzxblum1 -
Thanks for the days description. Never understood all that stuff about water and BB.

In the words of the man from the $5 note, "we knocked the bastard off", or something like that eh. Or in another moment in radio sport - "I'm absolutly buggered"...
Did you use any supplements? I'm thinking of using these as 3 month all out effort (within the context of a balanced diet and several small meals):

for before and after workouts
Higher Power Micronized Glutamine
Optimum 100% Whey Protein
BSN NO-Xplode creatine

Apparently the body has three sources of energy which it calls on. Does anyone know much about this?[/quote]

gylcogen (stuff that comes from carbs) and fat are two

the third not so well know - alcohol. if that's in your system that gets burned first before you burn anything else. xzxdrinks
