I'm going to take this literally as an NPC selection as opposed to an all-time Canterbury team. Bloody hard to comment truly knowledgeably on earlier Canterbury players, even though some might be obvious selections. So, post 1976:

    15 MacDonald
    14 Gibson
    11 Green
    13 Matson
    12 Carter
    10 Mehrtens
    9 Bachop
    8 Read
    7 McCaw
    6 Thorne
    5 Whitelock
    4 C Jack
    3 Somerville
    2 Taylor
    1 Crockett

    O Franks
    R Loe
    Flynn
    Blackadder
    Brewer
    Marshall
    Hamilton
    R Deans

Come on people, there is so much room for debate here and so many guys I've probably not even thought of.

Can I say, even though I was a huge Craig Green fan, the backline kinda underwhelms. Even despite Mehrts, DC and Grim.

The greatest 10 in history out of position.

And not a lot if flair.

    Weird.

Would probably clean up. But doesn't excite me.

Bachop, plus, we all know DC has a touch of the tar brush even though his old man wont admit it.

Not hard to add some flair to the backline given we can claim the likes of SBW, Maitland, Blair, Mo'unga, Goodhue, J Barrett, Bale, Vunibaka (I think?), Bridge and Ennor. It's just who earns the right.

And don't forget Steve Cleave, Wiremu Maunsell, Andrew McCormack and Shayne Philpott.

It was in high rotation amongst my grandmother's when I was a kid, both the Maori and the Pakeha ones.

Alister Hopkinson,Bill Bush,Andy Earl,Ian Kirkpatrick,Graeme Higginson,Chris Laidlaw,Fergie McCormick,Justin Marshall ,Sony Bill Williams,Marika Vunibaka,Wilson Wineray you still have to throw in the mix if you are talking about greatest ever side you could put on the park.

If you go back to 1976 and say if they were professional they would be up to the standard then everyone should be considered how great would some of those names I mentioned have been if they trained to the extent the players do now.

I'm pretty gutted Greg Coffey didn't get a look in at 10.

I'm slightly more gutted that Andy Miller only played for the Crusaders.

How did Deans become the final choice at fullback?

Home provinces get selection preference over your poaches, Rangi is playing for Ta$man.

Jeez I was ok with Robbie as a sub, but I might have gone in a different direction as a starter. Probably George Bridge.
