Taranaki v Hawke's Bay

Lengthy injury list is as follows:

Gareth Evans
Brendon Edmonds
Michael Allardice
Ross Filipo
Sanaila Waqa
Trent Boswell-Wakefield
Chris Eaton
Sam McNicol
Robbie Fruean
Shannan Chase

according to this morning's HB Today -

Interesting change in the reserves with Hamelink coming in for Mikaele Tu'u who doesn't appear on the "not available for selection because of injury" list. Not knowing anything about Hamelink. Does he bring things to the game in different ares to Mikaele Tu'u that are more suited to what will be needed against Taranaki or is he rated higher than Mikaele Tu'u and simply coming back from injury that saw him sit out the Wellington match?

I'm really worried about this match now after seeing Wellington get dismantled by Otago last night.

Is TBW still injured or is Philpott just being himself?

This is from the HBT:

In addition to swapping halfback and tighthead prop, the only other change sees Hastings Rugby and Sports loosie Ben Hamelink replace clubmate Marino Mikaele-Tu'u.

Should Hamelink get game time, it will be his first-class debut.

Mikaele-Tu'u and Shield Snorters prop Mason Kean will both play for the Shield Snorters under-19s against Manawatu at Park Island tomorrow.

Unavailable for the Shield Snorters tomorrow are All Blacks Israel Dagg and Brodie Retallick and 10 players; Evans, Brendon Edmonds, Michael Allardice, Ross Filipo, Sanaila Waqa, Trent Boswell-Wakefield, Chris Eaton, Sam McNicol, Robbie Fruean and Shannan Chase, all on the injured list.

Former Magpie Trinity Spooner-Neera has been named on the Taranaki bench after an outstanding performance for the Taranaki development team last weekend.

Former Shield Snorters Under-20 rep Rhys Marshall will start at hooker for the hosts.

Never really trust HBT though, because Fruean is on the team list of the HB Saracens (playing the Manawatu Development team tomorrow), so he can't be injured.

About last night's Wellington game: they looked a lot weaker than last week, so I'm not sure there's much reason to worry. The ref (Nick Briant) was also much better than last week's ref (Brett Johnson). Brendon Pickerill will be tomorrow's ref.

On the hand, since the first PS game, the Bay have been especially weak on defence. That didn't improve much with the introduction of Super Rugby players. Last week, we had a team that had been training together for less than a week, so there's hope things will improve.
-

Hamelink is a 7, Mikaele Tu'u is an 8.
-

I would say Mark Abbott is covering six and eight.

He played six against Canterbury last year and eight against Northland in 2014.
-

Goodness, he must be keeping those things under his hat as everything I have seen him display points to him being suited exclusivelas a lock. Any too late for changes now as the Bay file out onto the field behind captain Ash Dixon, accompanied by a waving of his Shield Snorters flag by yours truely!

i'm happy for Taranaki to get 3 points for every 14 the good guys get...
