not really changes as in shape, but 7your muscles can look tired and flat. So you need to feed them up between comps so you can go in hard again next time. Lots relies on the carbing up. When you weight in the night before it gives you 18 hours to scoff plenty of carbs - but hard to weight in at night as you are heavier, so need to go harder on the days before. Nats and Asia pacific were night weigh ins, most regional comps are day, so you are loking your best at the night show - AFTER all the judging!!!

This is all from listeing to my traininer, as I never notice the flat tired muscles - in the dehydration carb deplete stage I feel like shit anyway, flat or not, and can't wiat for the feed up stage!!

Last year between Wellington and Nationals (2 weeks last year), Vanessa's legs changed beyound belief, much more definition second time around, and I was leaner too secdon time out.

this morning weight 81.7kg, and 8.2%BF.

think a little dehydrated - I always find it hard to get enouigh water in over the weekend, as at work I have the water bottles lined up on my desk and know I need to finsih one before mid morning, one by lunch, and at least one after lunch. Always tough as home when you are just tooling around doing nothing. Speaking of whcih, water time right now!!

SO I don't think I'll be having any trouble with my weight for Nationals, 1.2 kilos in the next what 19 or so days. If anything, I'll need to keep the food going in - as to be fair, I have been cheating a little - three huntyl plamers crackers yesterday when I got home (had to finish the box, they had been calling out to me since Raro) from morning work, and an HPLC bar the day before, both not on the menu...

We go see Teresa trainer on the 17th though, she'll food me up or down as the case may be. Pissing down here today, so not a lot will happen, have an hour cycle at gym, Ness has that and a series of 50 metre sprints to complete, I'll go down and get wet with her in solidarity, but it's not going to be much fun - good training for the golden oldies weekend in a few weeks...

    Monday 13th 81.8kg

and brilliant news, Trainer is worried that I may be getting a little flat so I have a two day cardio holiday!! So no walks / cycles / anything until Wednesday again!!! Basically don't want me to keep lsing weight, as this is where I basically need to be through until dehydration / carb deplete, so it's a case of keeping an even keel!

    Wednesday 15th.

Cardio holiday over, so walked to gym, abs and core, and walked home. Weight 81.1kg, 7.5% BF, water up too, so all going well.

Going to be back to my leanest and meanest come nationals - and will have to be if I want a title again, as if everyone else improves from raro, even 1 or 2%, and I stay the same, I'm fucked!!!

SEVENTEEN DAYS TO GO.

    Saturday 81.6
Sunday 81.6
Monday 81.8

Thank goodness we are off to see traininer today - still eating the same, and not cheating, as I am a good lad, and weight is what it is. Mind you, the plumbing is starting to clog, so time for Alpine teas and the like to get things moving again. Love the battle with your own body on this front - NOT!!

Tuesday 81.3 (yes body, nice one funny joke, trainer visit over, so back to normal weight now)...

Both in the best knick ever at this stage pre show, my back skinfold measurements same as Nationals last year 11 days out. My Waist 5 cm smaller, my chest bigger, so all the training and hard work paying off. But we'll see, as unfortunately, I expect all the other candidates are also training hard...!!!!

Carb depletion starts from tomorrow. Oh joy, oh joy, I can't wait...

    Wednesday 80.6kg

ten days to go.

cardio day today, no weights, wind still howling, rain still falling, looking forward to the walk home after work!!

amazing the mind shifts in just little amounts of time. You go from thinking of winning, then thinking of just surviving and getting there in one piece, and then those competitive juices start flowing again, and it's all about winning on the day...

Just roll on Friday the 1st and the weigh in!!

great thread as always Bartman. Good luck for the nationals. Hope you win!
Eidt: Have you ever thought of having a mentor website for young New Zealanders? Encouraging them to get into awesome shape...There would be a lot who could benefit from your knowledge and discipline.

Here's an exercise on the pull up bar for the gym inclined to do-I usually do it after my workouts:

rep 1:
1. start with half a pull up, then hold position and do 5-10 straight leg runs, 5-10 for each side depending on your conditioning. Finish, do 3 knee lifts in the same position.

2. Complete the pull up, hold the position then repeat the runs.

rep 2: Lower your self to the half pull up position, and repeat the set.

continue as many times as you are able with good form, then rest, and do 3-5 times.

Would be interested to hear if others find it easy, beneficial.

Cheers

hey Kea, would enjoy that sort of thing - but don't know about kids, maybe more fat lazy people, as I was one, in spades, and in denial, in spades (just a few kilos overweight etc)...

anyways, being a skinny bastard now, 40 kilos down on what I was, this mornings weigh in, drum roll...

80.5kg - GOOOOOOAAAAALLLLLL....

80.1 this morning. Just gym'd, hour cardio, 20 minute cycle, 20 minute treadmill (fast walk), 20 minute cycle. Last 5 minutes on the cycle was murder. With the days intake of carbs being 2 x 1/4 cups of whole grain oats, and a half cup or rice, and 3 teaspoons of honey, there is not a lot of fuel in the tank for anything at the moment!

but light at the the end of the tunnel, this week flies by - tomorrow we visit traininer Teresa in Thames, then Ness sees her Bikini lady in Pukekohe. So the day is done and dusted before you know it. Friday we do our final tan and then head to Auckland to set up base camp and then weight in, so again, that day is full on and gone before you know it. That just leaves Tuesday / Wednesday and Thursday to struggle through, and struggle it is. Tuesday though is the final waxing, back and chest (about to get my legs killed now), so that burns an hour or two too.

So the week WILL go like lightning, the last 6 days always do.

This time next week we'll have had a nice 'works' breakfast and a couple of hot chocolates, and will be starting to wend our way back to Whangamata, via at least one BP for a ginat muffin for Ness - and a caramel slice for me, for starters....

    79.2 Kilos.

Visited trainer today, both on target - best condition we have ever been in. Whcih is nice, considering it is the worst we have felt, so it must be all going right!!

80.8 kilos for a night weigh - so that is wicked news too - only 300 off the mark (we weigh in between 6-8 on the Friday). Ness spot on her weigh in weight. This is before dehydration too, so once again, GOOOOOAAAAALLLLLLL....

79.1 this morning, and BF% down to a low of 4.2.

Diuretics started too, no more workouts - yesterday was last legs / back and biceps. Now is just posing and pumping up over the next couple of days, plus bloody tanning, travel to Auckland, and strutting on stage like a bloody cock hen, and then MAccas for one of those mega macs I think is the post com agenda!! For me anywya!

weight this evening at 6:05 - 80 kilos on the nose. Half a kilo under goal. Does this mean some carbs tomorrow pre weigh in, still waiting on trainer to get back to us... Fingers, toes and everything else on the planet crossed. A few rice wafers with jam would go down a TREAT. But 500g is still pretty close to the line. Ness in the same boat - 500g under.

A far cry from Rarotonga, where we were both still over the night before!!
