OK parts of this are on the naughty side but its a good salad to satisfy the hunger while getting roughage and avoiding a lot of shit - lower the bacon and avocado content to dodge the "bad" bits if you like. I dig it. No idea where she stole it from but now claims it as her own, like a Russian weightlifter who wants to emigrate to our great brown land.

Preparation time : 20 mins
Cooking time : 35 mins
Serves : 4

Ingredients:
[]6 cloves garlic (unpeeled)[/Ⓜ2f12lihh]
[]1/3 cup (80 ml) Olive Oil[/Ⓜ2f12lihh]
[]1 ½ tablespoons Balsamic Vinegar[/Ⓜ2f12lihh]
[]2 teaspoons Dijon mustard[/Ⓜ2f12lihh]
[]250g rindless smoked back bacon or just bacon pieces[/Ⓜ2f12lihh]
[]100g green salad leaves[/Ⓜ2f12lihh]
[]1 small red onion, halved and sliced[/Ⓜ2f12lihh]
[]2 avocados, peeled and cut into 1.5 cm chunks[/Ⓜ2f12lihh]
[]450g firm ripe tomatoes cut into 1.5cm chunks[/Ⓜ2f12lihh]
[]Salt and pepper to taste[/Ⓜ2f12lihh]
Instructions:

1. Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius . Place the garlic on a baking tray and roast for 30 mins. Allow garlic to cool then squeeze out flesh and mash into a small bowl.
2. Add the Olive oil, Balsamic Vinegar and Dijon mustard and whisk together. Season with salt and ground black pepper
3. Chop the bacon into bite size pieces and grill/dry fry for 3-5 minutes until crisp
4. Place salad leaves into serving bowl and add the bacon, sliced onion, avocado and tomato. Toss together well. Whisk dressing ingredients again and pour over salad before serving.

Serve dressing separately to keep salad crisp, and oh yeah - eat with copious quantities of dead cow

:edit: There - I ungirlified it as much as I can. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Why is avocado bad for you? It's a fruit and it doesn't taste very nice. Surely that guarantees that it's good for you, on the mug's guide scale.

MvJ has always believed that all fruit and vegetables are good for you, but I was eating a banana last week at my desk when one of our secretaries walked in and shook her head disaprovingly. So I threw it at her.

She probably wanted your tummy banana MvJ.
Avocado has monounsatured fat in it, but this is considered "good" fat as its easily burned for energy (as opposed to saturated fats like in meat etc) and has loads of good stuff besides. But if you don't burn it, its still fat. Bananas are high in sugar but again the other contributions (fibre, potassium etc) are good for you. Don't eat bananas on an empty stomach btw because the high sugar content makes your insulin go wild.

Cheers; whilst we're on it, where do grapes and sultanas fit in?

Nice link. The bit about replacing cigarettes with carrot sticks gave me an amusing picture of Crusader Corey down at the Rugby Club...

Monosaturated fats also increase good cholesterol. Avocado's chief failing for me is I see one and immediately get a tequila craving.
