Tuesday Row with Willie at MOUNT Baywaves gym thingy...<br />
<br />
20 mintues 5341.<br />
<br />
Wednesday Row 30 minutes 8224m 1:49.4 / 500 ave.<br />
<br />
Must be getting fitter, as todays row was not a hard out attack, but found I was 'cruising' at 1:50 after the first ten minutes. Working hard, no doubt about it, but still within myself. Managed to sprint the last 2 minutes in about 1:43 / 500.<br />
<br />
Sooo, going to give 10,000 a nudge, if can keep to that 1:50/500 mark, should get to 36:40 time, which is 57 seconds better than current PB.<br />
<br />
So RedBeard, when Purvey was fit, reckon he would have caned that 1:50 for 40 minutes. Powerful bloke, would row with ease methinks. Running however.... :nta<br />
<br />
Willie - your rowing ceratinly needs work mate - technique is where it is at, and that is where you isn't!!!! Practise rowing less strokes per minute at more power. Get to 2:00/500, and then hold it there as long as you can, at a slow stroke rate, then speed the rate up, and watch your /500 rate drop, as you will carry on rowing at the same power, but more SPM, and therefore faster. I reckon anyway!! -
morning row:Â 6000Â Â 23.01.9<br />
<br />
Amazing how much different your rowing can be in the morning. Certainly forme the best time to row is after work - body ready for action - it was a genuine struggle this morning - maybe not that fit after all :nta. But do note mornings are always harder for me - weights in the early hours is just purgatory.<br />
<br />
If I have time will try that 10k tonight. -
Back on deck - Monday row: 8000m   30:15.3<br />
<br />
The new rowing season started - May to May, so will try and get a daily average better than last seasons, which was 5,500 odd.<br />
<br />
Tuesday Afternoon Row: 10000m   37:58.5<br />
Tuesday Evening: 5500m  21:27.3 -
Question - when you first started using the rowing machine, how long did it take for you to be able to row the long distances? Have been rowing for a while now, but very rarely do I feel I am actually capable of going past 2000m. Usually by this point, the HR is well over 170 & MR is completely fucked.<br />
<br />
I usually go on about level 7 & get to 2,000m at about 8:30 - any tips on building this up? -
Maybe drop your speed and this should help you go for longer. Or try rowing 1000m then have a 2 minute rest and repeat three times. If all esle fails wait for Barts reply. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol:' />

slow down!!<br />
<br />
think of the rate that you row 2000m in (say 1:50 / 500), and never ge below that - row at 2:00 / 500 for 5k (that'll give you 20 minutes).<br />
<br />
Slow your stroke rate too - drop it way back - mid 20s (I am assuiming it is in the ealry 30s at the moment, as with most new rowers - Willie Weka was cruising along at about 33 strokes a minute, but treading water damn near) but keep your 500m times the same. Less speed, more power.<br />
<br />
Evening row: 8000m  30:06.8<br />
<br />
Feeling a bit knacked, was going to give the red bear intervals a go, but there was nothing there tonight. Will try and eat well and give it a nudge tomorrow night... -
my time of 8:30 per 2000m, shows that I'm going along about 2:10/500m, so not sure how much I can slow this down!<br />
<br />
the stroke rate, yeah I'm looking at 29-32 for most of it, which seemed to be on a par with the other rowers around me. I'll drop it down to 25/6 and try and put more power in the pull.<br />
<br />
Cheers for you help! -
no, you want to speed the 2:10/500, but slow the strokes per minute. Basically, pull harder, but less often!!<br />
<br />
lunchtime row, did the Redbeard 5000. 5 x 1000 with 2 mnutes rest between.<br />
<br />
3:26.3<br />
3:24.7<br />
3:25.6<br />
3:22.7<br />
3:25.0<br />
<br />
it really really hurt. <br />
<br />
Afterwork row.  6000, 21:58.3<br />
Felt good, thought I wouild be shagged after the lunchtime row, but survived, and managed a half decent time  Now off to traning and punish the Whanga boys. 1000 scrums, mwa ha ha ha... -
Just thought I would chuck another rowing option in for your training - in case you getting bored. On the new concept rowers they have a few custom sessions built into them. Did 1 today; <br />
<br />
1 min on - 1 min off<br />
2 min on - 2 min 0ff<br />
3 min on - 3 min off<br />
4 min on - 4 min off<br />
3 min on - 3 min on<br />
2 min on - 2 min off<br />
1 min on - 1 min off.<br />
<br />
Kept it under 1.35 for the 1 and 2 min sprints and under 1.40 for the rest. Thought the rest periods looked to long when I first started but needed them - Only 16 mins of actual rowing time but a farkin beauty workout. -
Fark looks a killer, I like  Mikght be the lunchtime attack tomorrow.<br />
<br />
Those mintutes go really really long when you are rowing those 1000m intervals, I imagine they will be evern longer on this one... Also must do a warmup next time for that interval thing.<br />
<br />
Weight down to 102kg, am going to try that no carbs at night thing for month and see what happens to weight. Tried on my old Valley blazer, circa. 1992, and it fits again - my manager one from a year or two back now like a trench coat!! -
Saturday Row: 10 minutes/ 2753m Then upper body weightsw session, at gym.<br />
<br />
Saturday about a million hours swimming with the Willie Weka Tribe. i think there are five boys, but coule be up to 14 they move around that fast. Saturday night at the Waratahs lose to the Chiefs too <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol:' /><br />
<br />
Sunday RTow: 10,000  /  36:45.6  Knocked almost 30 seconds off old PB - amazing what rowing on a new rower will do to your times! At gym at the Mount again. -
MOnday Lunchtime:  5000m 17:36.5 another new PB - this time by about 7 seconds. (1:45.6 / 500m).<br />
<br />
Heart rate for the 6 second thing was 19 beats - 190 a minute at the end... I must get that heartrate monitor.<br />
<br />
The new rowing 'season' has started, so have to set new times for the ratings boards online. -
Lunchtime row:Â 5500Â Â 20:20.1<br />
<br />
Trainspotting facts of the rowing career of Mr B Man.<br />
<br />
I have now rowed since getting the machine in Feb 2002 : 5,617,275m sitting on the rower for 365 hours, 53 minutes and 41 seconds. Rowing at an average pace of 1:57.2 / 500m<br />
<br />
For the 2007 season : 78,253m in 4 hours, 51 minutes, 7 seconds. Average 1:51.6 / 500m<br />
<br />
Evening Row:Â 7500Â Â 28:05.8 -
thing I don't get is what drives you on? In order to push myself that hard in any cardio activity I need to be doing it for a reason, training for a triathlon etc, where I can see the progress towards the goal, I can't do it just to 'be fitter'. Weights and a bit of cardio I can do but that's because I like to look good!
-
You get hooked, and always want to better your times - with me that has happened anyway. Get down times when you can't be arsed, but not too many. the online rankings also help. You see you are 4 seconds off beating another 5 blokes, so you go hard out to beat them, and so on, and so on...<br />
<br />
