Despite the best efforts of modern technology and all the help this forum can give you utilising it, there is no substitute for the necessary willpower. Find some.

Back to the gym today or the first time in 4 weeks (cold and holiday). Felt crap as I now have put my back out, but turned up and managed my hardest and longest cardio session in years - still nothing but all relative. Comments were passed on how much better I looked and when I weighed myself had lost 3 kgs! 👼 😁 Think I'll leave early and go to the pub to cele.... :nta

Was also able to climb up 19 metres on a building site yesterday which from 6 mths ago is amazing improvement. Ain't life grand.

OK In deference to Bart I sure have a lot of weakness leaving my body today.

Actually felt like I did a proper gym session yesterday for the 1st time since started going there about 6 mths ago. Even more than any weight loss this is what I'm pleased about. A couple of mths ago climbing 1 flight of stairs brought on a coughing spasm. We're building a new warehouse at work and I can climb to the top (6 floors) Nothing to the average person but when you've been unable to do simple shit like that for nearly 5 yrs its brilliant.

Lost 1kg in last week. Struggling with the no booze since my splurge lst mth but am keeping to about 30 units/wk which is way too much but about 40% of my lifetime average.

Getting there slowly on all fronts.

It's a funny old world when you start losing X' from your shirt sizes! So good work that man. I am managing to squeeze into some shirts with NO Xs on them now, but feel most comfy in the XL!

All about little steps, keep going me old china!!

So almost 2 yrs on - what progress to report. Kept up the going to the gym until about May 2007 when physio went on OE, but have continued with reasonably regular exercise since then - chiefly walking and other cardio.

Weight went back up to about 122 although all through last yr I was getting people comment that I was looking better.

Also found a good massage therapist who I'm seeing once a week to try and keep back and chest issues under control and have been regular at th Pilates which is now like a full on gym session in terms of effort expended.

Mrs DM's now been in a wheelchair for 5 yrs and her weight has ballooned. I figured around Jan that as she continues to deteriorate the only way we can delay her going into full time care is if she loses some weight (shifty way of dieting without saying I'm dieting0 so I canm still lift her about.

Anyways my BP was also seriously high (190/110 at times - although I wore a BP Cuff for 24 hrs and the hospital were happy with levels - I always knew it was all over the place) so I cut back drastically on the grog and didn't change what we eat but space it out rather than eting everything at night.

Also on a mates advice going to acupuncturist for BP. Freaky acupuncture dude took my pulse and said "liver very bad". This makes sense as I did pick up a tropocal parasite at one stage 20 yrs ago which ate away at my liver. So he reckons treat the liver and BP, cholesterol and weight will also improve. He's also got me scoffing 16 herbal tablets/day. He also checked my tongue which confirmed diagnosis. Has a disgusting book of photo's of sick peoples tongues.

6 wks later BP still peaks at times but peaks are lower and not stroke material and generally around 130/88. Lost 6 inches round waist and 10kgs. Waist and weight since last measured in about Nov.

Costing a shed load for acupuncture, massage, pilates each week but I feel a lot better, they seem to be complimenting each other and soon hopefully I'll be able to run rather than stagger. Back of my mind is Akl marathon which if I can staert proper training for in June I'll give a nudge. Plus you're a long time dead, right.

Virgil, you need to get the prescription for yr glasses looked at mate <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='😠' /> Nice of you to say so, but at that stage I would have been 120 kg's. BMI reckons I'm obese until I get below 106 and fighting weight shoul be 88 <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

I'll be happy enough with double figures and an ability to run. If I get BP under control and dip into 90's reckon I'll celebrate with a bungy off the Harbour Bridge.

    Those BMI things are crap!
According to them everyone playing either rugby or league would be obese <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='😠' />
