Weekend in Taupo with Mrs BartMan playing squash, and thought that woud be it, no exercise for me, but right beside the squash club, the Taupo Events centre and their 'fitness suite'.
So for $12, had a row on Saturday and Sunday, and even used their treadmills, to WALK a 20 minute warm down.

Sooo, Saturday 6000m 21:07.5 a new PB for that distance by about 30 seconds or so I think. Also beat my 5000m time on the way past to the 6000m by a couple of seconds, so was pretty stoked. Then walked on the above mentioned treadmill and cramped a beauty in both calves.

Sunday, did some interval training stuff - would row hard out for 30 seconds, and then just row for 90 seconds. Did a half hour row, and covered 8242 - which is 40 odd metres off my PB for the distance. Treadmill again to finish, no cramps this time!

Weight got under 100kg for the first time this weekend too - jumped on scales before row - 101kg, after row, 99kg. Second day was 98kg after the row, and 101 gain pre row!!

Also saw hori Bop of all poeple there, and he weighed in at a sevete 170kg...

lunchtime row. That 30 second sprint / 90 sec cruise thing again for 30 munutes. 8269 - season best, and 19 metres off PB. Should have started a sprint a minute out, but think I would have died.

Willie - expect my real weight is that 101-102 still!! but a couple of kilos worth of weight loss in sweat during a 20 minute and a 30 minute row. Goes to show, drink shed loads of water boys and girls!!

morning paddle 5000m 19:31.3. So much less 'ooomph' when you row in the morning - guess your bodsy still not woken up.

Under the hundie aye? Be sure to avoid the dark alleyways of Whanga where hoodlums lurk waiting for poor souls to do over.

Bartman. How have you found rowing for pure fat loss? I imagine you actually put on a bit of muscle rowing, but burn more fat.Â

I don't know how good it is, but since January 2004, I have now lost about 18-20kgs. Although, the last 10kgs has been thanks to eating right too. Or righter, rather! That has also coincicded with me rowing upwards of 50,000 a week too, instead of 30 a week.

Is a good aerobic, or anerobic exercise, depending how hard you row.

DOn't think you gain too much muscle - lots of strength I expect though!!

This thread has me quite motivated to try and beat your times as I think they are damn difficult yet acheiveable targets (in time once fitter) for a chubbo like myself. I like rowing as it's easy on the joints if you have the technique right.

I will let you know how I go. My first 5000 will be at Lunchtime

Cheers

mate, you should be able to give them a good nudge - a dwarf like myself rowing should be at a disadvantage to a stretch like youself (getting my excuses in early ).

log into concept2.com and start a traing thing there. In your profile you can input 'training partners', and check what they have been doing. You can then (I think) check back onto old times / distances, so you could start by attacking my early times / distances.

My ranking ID is 66877 so you can check in there.

here's my first ten training rows on the rower...
Our gym doesn't have concept 2 rowers but my new gym may when I change jobs. I suppose all rowers would be pretty similar in terms of accuracy!

Good stuff mate, it's a pretty amazing feeling when you officially go under the hundie, as I finally found out on Thursday.
It's a feeling that skinny people will never be able to understand... 👼

Sunday: 5500: 20:15, and upper body weights session.

Under the ton for a few seconds I reckonl until I had re hydrated!!

But getting there. Don't think I would like to get much under the 100 at any rate - hate feeling 'small' after all theses years of being a frontrower. Someone even picked me for a flanker the other day. The shame :shifty:

    Don't believe the hype, Bartos.
'Small' lives longer, goes further, doesn't get diabetes, heart disease etc...
We've just been told we need to be big by our coaches ever since college, so of course it's going to be hard to change your mindset, but you've gotta do it, for the sake of yourself. I don't know about you, but I want to meet my grandkids. (In about another thirty years, mind 😁)
I'm pretty sure we're about the same age (I'm 32), so now's the time to get cracking... or else we're heading down a road that ends at heart attack city.
I'm planning on being around 85kg when I run the London Marathon, anything more and it'll just be too hard.

Willy, you get your touch team together, and I'll get mine, and then we'll see who has the magic :knubble:

Chowie, I don't think I would get much below 95kg, not carrying too much fat at all now, and am probably fitter than when I was playing code! Mind you, with that stupid BMI index thing, no doubnt I am still super obese.... :tickedoff:
