So he damn well should be. He is getting paid full contract wages, make him get out there and earn what he is getting very well paid to do.

@Canes4life Not so sure about that. Peter U-J is in the touring squad to South Africa and Jonah Lowe will probably be available again, too. He posted this on his instagram (with a photo of his with his brothers in the jersey of his club), so I assume he has recovered from his injury and will play club rugby next weekend:

@Stargazer yeah I agree re Peter Umaga Jensen, he will most likely come into the 13 jersey. I hope they don't move Barrett from fullback because he is starting to get some momentum there.

Maybe he is not good enough to warrant making the match day 23? Having said that Mr. Philpott has made some rather mysterious selections in his lineups starting right from his first NPC Head Coach appointment.

@Higgins so those who have Super Rugby experience get selected behind those who don't. Makes total sense 😕 He could be in for a long tournament if he continues this method of selection.

@Canes4life Nanai-Seturo was selected. How much Super has Proctor actually played though? Nanai-Seturo has a reasonable amount for a rookie.

@Yeetyaah One or two games for Canes and he played for the 20s last year which would make him one of the more experienced in the squad. Surely you go with experience when you have very little across the squad.

I hope I'm right in the fact he's coming back to the Canes for injury cover after what looks like a season ending injury to his bro.

Super Rugby squad selectors are different to/indepoendent of NZ Under 20s selectors so obviously there must a difference of opinion over the relative ranking of players in this instance. Has Billy Proctor actually had any on field Super Rugby experience rather than simply full time training in a professional rugby environment? He seems to spend an awful lot more time playing club rugby than most others with full super rugby contracts.

From what I saw in the warm up games against Fiji and Australia, Billy Proctor makes this squad in his sleep. Maybe it's a case of not playing the best players against the weaker teams.

The FoxSports website detailing player's super rugby experience has Billy Proctor listed as having played one super rugby match clocking up a total of one minute of experience. You will see him listed as player number 564 on page 29 for conformation (right or wrong?) of this. If this is correct then he has, for all intents and purposes nil super rugby playing experience.

@Higgins 13 games of NPC, been in and around Super Rugby and played for the team last year. You say he might not be good enough, but a 5 year Super Rugby contract says he makes the squad all day, every day.

Like I said, I will welcome him back into the Canes if Philpott continues to butcher our World Cup chances, no wonder we got a hiding from Australia.

Is that 8 forwards on the bench and no backs? Do the trial substitution laws apply?

@Canes4life A five year contract does not seem to se him "make the squad "all day, every day" for the Hurricanes.

Yep, Billy Proctor came on in the 81st minute of the Waratahs v Hurricanes game. He was also named in the reserves for the Sunwolves v Hurricanes game, but never came off the bench.

@Higgins The guy is 20 years old, he's in the Hurricanes environment to learn from the likes of his brother before he is ready to make the step up, so no he doesn't make that squad all day. every day.

Under 20s is a different story - he is competing with a bunch of guys his own age (the majority of who have significantly less experience than him). It's odd that you think he isn't good enough to be there. Maybe you've been hanging out with Philpott too much.

Billy Proctor and Quinn Tupaea are probably competing for the same spot in the squad, centre. Tupaea had a far more notable NPC season last year than Billy. About the same number of games, and the same age.
