@Machpants Yeah, it's a shame. The BFs were missing some big names (Hirini, Blyde, Woodman) during this tournament, so they'll still have a good chance of winning when injury strikes, but the AB7s have less depth (or - at least - depth of sufficient quality). It will be interesting to see who of the young SR players will eventually make the Olympic squad.

Can somebody tell me why Kurt Baker is even in the NZ Sevens Team...?..I just don’t rate the guy..anybody else feel the same..?

He's a bloody good player when he's not trying to be a dick all the time. Unfortunately as he gets older that seems to be more and more rather than less and less. Needs dropping again to get some humble pie.

SA midgets in another class with all their S15 & CC players back in 7s. Only Kwagga was missing.

Cape Town is a sold out and the pressure will be heavy on the Blitzbokke.

Men's rankings after one tournament. This list clearly shows that they award different points to those ranked 5th - 8th, but withouth 5th to 8th place play-offs having been played. I really would like to see an explanation of how they've come to this ranking.

It is points differential as the commentators mentioned that the late try by the Fijian women against NZ would help their ranking. I'm not sure if that is based only on the QF match or over the entire tournament.

And at least the men made the final, hopefully the fresh blood will be voided before the Olympics and we won't have an old broken down slow squad this time

Wouldn't count on it, SBW bound to make himself available for selection again at the last minute.

A big turning point was the scrum penalty against NZ. Ridiculous decision IMO. SA scored a few seconds later and it was game over.

South Africa's inexperience is showing. Easy try to Nathan-Wong.

I don't think the players realise that the hooter has gone. Why don't the BFs kick it out?

    And it's over.

Full time : New Zealand 40 - 0 South Africa.

It was always going to be tough for S Africa, who are the invitational team of the Cape Town Sevens, against the World no. 1, but no doubt they'll enjoy the experience of playing at home.

BFs didn't do anything wrong, but it wasn't really more than a warm-up game.
