you will be lucky to make any gains, or even stop yourself from slipping in the weights department once the season starts proper, sodon't get too disheartened when this starts to happen. Between injuries and lack of recovery, the weights just slip - it sucks...

Yeah tell me about it, we are 5 games in now and my Sunday sessions are gone to pot, Legs sessions are almost non-existant as they are either a day before a training sesh or the day after a match.

Thinking of trying some protein shakes etc... to help. Anyone got any experience/opinions on these?

62 nil win for us yesterday, got a brace and had my third disallowed by the ref for no reason at all other than the oppo told him i had knocked on ( i had kicked a ball ahead). Bull shiT! but it saved me buying a jug for the boys.

Back to the gym today to see if i can move anything.

Been focusing on shoulders this week, mostly with shoulder press, dips, pull downs and shrugs as well as a couple of other things.

pushing around 60kgs on the press but i am getting a recurring niggle in my left shoulder, got it a few weeks back, during a chest session with the pain forming a line from the should over the bicep and then behind the elbow, ached like fuck that night.

Again, i am struggling to keep a proper regular routine going, what with recovery from games and work commitments, at the moment only managing 3 visits to the gym a week.

Does Finchley have any friendlies planned against the might that is Haringey this year?
The one before the England test last year was a cracker (we don't have sky at our clubrooms so we like to play these ones away).

Not sure mate, if they are friendlies they are ususally ad hoc games. Will check the site in a bit.

Fuller - what have your gains been? Mainly weight and any other measures if you have any?

I'm about to embark on something similar, and sounds like I'm a similar size so you can be my inspiration....<img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' />

I got back into the gym and regular weights about April this year.I didn't weight myself at that point on starting to go to the gym again but a few montsh before my stats were 6ft 1inch and weighed in at around 83/4 kg at most it was 85kgs.

Managed to reach 90kgs about September time and have since then pretty much stayed at this level, i am concerned only with maintaining it now as the rugby season has kicked off and training twice a week it is easy for it to fall off. Try to get to teh gym three times a week to work on weights through the season, but because of the fact that i am doing a lot of running in training twice a week and a game on Sat, leg sessions in the gym are hard to do (and this impacts on weight gain)

Since say end of July i have been using Creatine and found it a massive help. The extra energy means you can do say 4 sets of bench instead of three etc,,, and obviously this has a knock on effect when it comes to gains.

The only thing i wouild say is that due to a focus on weights during the summer i didn't put enough emphasis on fitness and suffered in fast paced games, only now is that starting to rectify itself.

Maybe my memory is hazy because of the KO's!

My team played Fullerians this weekend. Won up in Watford 26 - 20. However i wasn't playing! i was in the two's.

Fullerians went down last year from London 3 and are yet to win this year. Going to be a hard couple of seasons for them i think, with a pack that is a mixture of old boys past their prime and younguns with potential. But no really good forwards yet.

You playing again?

This week's game - beat Tring 3's 6 tries to 3. Good win against a big ole team with a a smattering of Tring 1st team players (Tring are leading London 2) coming back from injury.

Never played against a team with such a muscular backline. After a dodgy first few mins it emerged that they should cut back on the weights and maybe learn how to draw man and pass. Went into half tiome 2 tries to on down and then ran in 5 tries in the second half as our backline cut them to shreds. Played 14 in the first half and 13 in the second.

Scored 1 set up a few more with some very, very basic rugby. Run straight from deep and at gaps - have as many moves as you like but the simple rules are always the best.

Managed to get to the gym last night for a shoulder and arms sesh but nothing crazy. Big weights session tonight though doing a Chest and back session.

Weight is up to 14stone 2lbs.

I am amazed by their progress as a club in the past few years. I first played them when i was playing for Fullerians and their team then was maybe on a par. Since then they have kicked on massively, they put out four teams now and unlike many clubs where anything below 1's and maybe 2's is dross their teams all are well drilled, all imposing physically etc....

Really decent club house as well.

I expect them to be London 1 next year and then the National 3 South is in sniffing distance. Would be an amazing achievement.

I just checked their website and it says that Finchley twos were supposed to be playing their 4th team, on the day i was told it was their thirds. Either way.... Big fokkers.

Yeah I heard they were shite, must be losing the 2 welshies and the kiwi just rocked them so bad huh!!

I want to play, but just cannot make the commiutment, clubs here expect you to train 2 times a week as well as play, unlike Fullers, I could just turn up and play on Sat!!

Am trying to get back into Golf though...have shed a few k's mind you, now 95

That might be Fullerians' problem. Finchley who have been promoted to the league that Fullers dropped to, and who beat them on the weekend train Tues and Thursdays and it makes a difference. Even pre-season, normally shits and giggles with loads of games of touch was just straight on with rugby drills.

All a bit too serious to be honest but that is the way they want to the club to me. Plus when you are in a downward spiral it can be hard to get out of it.

Gym Sunday after a piss poor game on Saturday when i hardly saw any ball or had to do any defending total 10 man rugby!

Last weeek i didn't get to the gym at all and instead nused my barbell in the house to do shoulder (press and shrugs) and arms (curls), once done this did 100 push ups a night (however many sets it took to get to 100).

Sunday went back to the gym and was pushing the same weights but a bit easier - was a chest session, sets of bench press x 4, incline bench (smith) x 3, dumbell press x 3, dips x 3, chest machine x3, tricep pull down x3, curls x3

Monday was another session, this time a big shouldes and back one. sets of Shoulder Press x 4, Dumbell press x 3, Pull Downs x 3, Machine Press x 3, Row Machine x 3, Dumbell Shrugs x3, finish on Dumbell Flys x 3.

No rugby training this week as i am not playing on sat, therefore i willslip in a leg session something i have been unable to do this season so far.
