    Was talking to a friend over the weekend about some of these old club rugby stories, and he told me a couple of stories from North Canterbury rugby - including about a future AB.

    1 A prop was pulling an opposition lock down in the lineout. The opposing prop said, "Boof, if you don't stop pulling him down, I'm going to have to hit you."

    Next lineout, and Boof pulled him down - the opposing prop punched him and knocked out his front teeth. The two of them looked at the teeth on the ground. The puncher said, "Are you going to pick them up"?

    Boof said, "I don't want them". And ran off.

    2 A similar story of a young prop pulling down a lineout jumper, getting warned and then punched. Except, this time the guy got hit in the eye socket and his eye popped out (like the basketball guy). Guy whose eye supposedly popped out got it stitched back in and then went on to play AB rugby.

    @ploughboy Similar to the Marty Brooke move for Auckland to target the opposition hooker.

    @Canes4life Huh....when did Lima play? Never knew that! Throw Salesi onto Tiatia's wing and Ope in at 12. Taione still the best pick of the hookers there.

    @Bones I think for a while now but more as a bench option.

    @Canes4life I reckon if you went back pre-amalgamation, you could probably swap in a few old-timers from Titahi Bay or Porirua rugby club too.

    @Wally

    Actually should replace Philpott( I know not a SF favourite but was a genuine hard man club lock in the 90s) with Johnny Gray Scotland.

    Technically, Petone could also call upon Purvis.

    Wellington Axemen Top XV - This has had a bit of thought put into it but once again without any outside references for help could well be subject to change a bit later. I have only been in Wellington for 20 years or so and am solely relying on what I have seen myself or heard of being talked about up in the Isherwood Lounge at aftermatch discussions.

    @Nepia He is always injured and has only laced up his boots a couple of times for The Texans so cannot really be selected on his schoolboy rating and such limited performances at senior level. Was given consideration nonetheless.

    I think he's moved passed Hugh Renton in the Magpies mythical player status due to injury.

    Dustin Watts was an unlucky man - he was an original selection in the 1996 Hurricanes but was replaced by Inoke Afeaki before the season started due to a knee injury that eventually caused his injury-enforced retirement in 1999.
