Stoli decides to fatbust for 07 atkins style
-
My flatmate when I was at uni was a pretty big guy, he went on the atkins diet basically because he didnt wanna cut bacon etc out of his diet. When we used to have bbq's he'd pull out a fat slab of steak or have burger patties wrapped between lettuce, and eat bacon and eggs for breakfast etc and he still lost 10kg. He piled the weight back on pretty quickly once he let carbs back into his diet. He reckoned he also had fuck all energy because he was never eating any proper fuel. <br />
<br />
Didnt atkins die of a heart attack last year? -
<br />
AWL<br />
<br />
He died I think the year before from a blow to the head when he slipped on ice outside his NY house. We he died later in hospital from complications from that<br />
<br />
<br />
Fair enough, the media love to beat up these types of deaths. All the best with your challenge anyways! -

Good luck there Stoli mate, sounds like the ideal diet for me! <br />
<br />

<br />
You'd be in a world of hurt because your job requires so much energy. Take away carbs and work like that and you'll pass out. -
<br />
Well week one of the new stoli is over and a fairly good result of 3.5kgs lost. 1st couple of weeks of Atkins usually brings big losses so was expected<br />
<br />
<br />
Any chance you could give those 3.5kgs to me? -

Yeah that's true Paj - you'd be weaker than a kitten without your sugar, grains and rice. -

nah you come right after a few days when your body starts processing food differently.<br />
<br />
I'm in the Stoli camp - i lost about 20kgs on Atkins, it was all good and i didn't even follow it that 'extremely'. Never put the weight back on either.<br />
<br />
and it's not unhealthy, in fact, the whole point of Atkins is to eat natural non processed food - the same food the human body has been eating for millions of years. Only been the last few years when all this processed crap came along that the body just can't deal with.<br />
<br />
and kirwin being a fat cnut is heaps worse than eating this diet short term. Lose weight to excercise not exercise to lose weight i reckon. Get the weight down first otherwise you get heaps of other shit going wrong with your body such as knees etc and it's no fun. -
This is a pretty fair review of the effectiveness of the diet;<br />

<br />
The main documented risks of Atkins is the damage to kidneys and bone strength, but this article suggests it increases the risk of some cancers also.<br />
<br />
From a weight loss point of view, the worst thing the article notes is that the diet targets muscle over fat. That makes it harder to maintain any weight loss. As for your weight loss, you're cycling like a bastard aren't you? Also, the reverse Heathrow injection? <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rolleyes:' /> -

<br />
nah i lost that weight doing atkins in the UK before i came back.<br />
<br />
that article is missing the point of what i've been saying all along - it's all 'long term'. You couldn't do it long term.<br />
<br />
I did it for only around 3 months, and lost weight drastically while still basically having one 'off day' a week.<br />
<br />
In terms of effectiveness for rapid weight loss, nothing else touches it. This is the best part about it due to the results people see - and i still disagree that it's that bad - it's only bad when people doing it incorrectly start cooking their meals in tonnes of oil etc. Atkins is all about eating natural food - the same food the human body has been eating for millions of years.<br />
<br />
Once you come off Atkins you have to adjust your diet - remember if you go back to eating as you used to, of course you'll put the weight back on, it's why you got fat in the first place!<br />
<br />
All I did was cut out carbs at night, and the weight never came back on.<br />
<br />
What i'm doiing now is nothing to do with any of the above, as i'm training anywhere from 2.5 hours a day to 7 hours a day so I need to be basically taking onboard as many carbs as possible. We shall see what happens once i stop training! <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rolleyes:' /> -
Well my 1st 4 weeks are over and the weight loss total is 7.2kgs.<br />
<br />
Helped by a weeks holiday last week at the beach and a lot of mountain biking through a forest. Though to counter that a bit, beer has been reintroduced to the range of liquid option but only in low-carb form -
An introduction to the paleolithic diet: http://www.earth360.com/diet_paleodiet_balzer.html<br />
<br />
makes a lot of sense... but i just couldnt live with out pasta, bread, potatoes et al... -
Paleolithic diet sounds interesting - and very similar to Atkins in terms of recommendations, but especially justification (i.e. humans don't eat masses of carbs). I might get back onto it and shed some kg - just have to make sure I get good amounts of sleep <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rolleyes:' />

Week 5 was a but slow for me but I find that happens on Atkins and had a slwo weekand only lost 200 grams, still 7.4kgs in 5 weeks is good and I expect that this week will be better.<br />
<br />
Have started to increase the exercise as well which should help.<br />
<br />

Read something interesting somewhere that said that it was healthier to be overweight and fit than skinny and unfit, so am going to be working on the fitness now as well as find it much easier to do after getting some kgs off
