    No meat at all in fact :nta<br />
    <br />
    This salad is pre-packed at Coles or Woolies for about $5. Its mostly Chinese Cabbage, but comes with a packet of noodles, red onion, and dressing. Only about 6% fat all up (mostly the noodles). Mix it up and it tastes bloody bewdiful.

    Yeah when you hit the noodles it kicks you on - makes you want to keep digging through the green stuff to get to the next noodle <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rolleyes:' /><br />

    Bought some cheapo free weights when I was out today just for something different. Tonight I did a circuit of pushups, crunches, leg raises under my own steam and then shoulder press and some trapezoid punishment - sort of a deadlift combined with a trap lift. And boy are they hurting now! Three lots of that and I was buggered. I'm starting to feel the muscle tone though and with a bike ride tomorrow the first week will conclude well. Just hope the weather is OK.

    Ride tonight was 20km of my usual 26km route (i.e. turned around at 10km instead of 13km) due to time constraints. Clocked it in just under 48 mins which is my PB for this distance at exactly 25 km/h. My approach is now two-pronged:<br />
    <br />

    • For rides of 20km, get the average speed up to 26km/h (i.e. do it in 46 minutes) and then increase from there as a "sprint" course<br />
    • For rides of 25km+, get my average speed to 25km/h<br />
      <br />
      Protein shake and I'm off to bed!

    More weights tonight followed by a protein shake and 1 litre of water. Man I was thirsty! I decided to do the weights at pace in order to up my heart rate and keep the old muscles guessing.<br />
    <br />
    Pushups x 10<br />
    Crunches x 20<br />
    Leg raises x 20<br />
    Shoulder press (10kg per arm) x 20<br />
    Deadlift (30kg) x 20<br />
    <br />
    Doing that three times around. The pushup count is very low because I'm just not strong enough yet, and sometimes I have to break at 5 because there is something up with my lower back. The deadlift is very light because of the back problem. Might go see a chiropractor... then buy some more weights to do serious deadlift.

    Just some free weights - 5 foot bar with 30kg on it, and two dumbells with 10 each. Not in this for massive muscles, just some weights resistance to supplement pushups and crunches. But big deadlifts are a must for leg and back strength IMHO.

    Weights tonight after two nights off due to other engagements. Felt good. Three lots of the below (reps noted):<br />
    <br />
    Pushups 10 / 10 / 10<br />
    Crunches 30 / 30 / 30<br />
    Leg raises 30 / 30 / 30<br />
    Shoulder press 10kg per arm 30 / 20 / 20 <br />
    Trap lifts 30kg 20 / 15 / 10<br />
    <br />
    Believe my back problems may just be due to condition and getting into the pushups too soon after I finish the previous set. I extended my break and it seemed to work.

    Went for a ride last night. 21 km in around 55 minutes (forgot to check the start time). Top speed has increased to 58.9km/h! Should have pushed for 60 <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rolleyes:' />

    lots of back arches I reckonwouold help your back - after riding to put all your disks back where they should be after riding along hunched up for so long sort of thing.<br />
    <br />
    And ever thought about buying one of those things you can put your bike on to make it a statioanry cycle - roller things that your back wheel sits on.  could do some ks at home in the cold and wet or when baby sitting duties preclude you hitting the road.

    Bart - have looked, but they're worth several times more than the bike! <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rolleyes:' /><br />
    <br />
    Will try the back arches - good idea. Think I might go see a chiro about this pain I get in my lower neck when I turn my head to the left too. General re-alignment in order.

    i had a bulging disc about a million years ago, and Doc said back arches to force it back to where it should be.  Always do arches after rowing, and have next to no back problems.  Only sometimes when doing weights and getting tired!

    Yeah technique goes to shit when you're at the end of the workout...<br />
    <br />
    Had a bad weekend all things considered. No exercise at all. Bad eating on Sunday too and a can of Bundy n Cola. Must get back into it tonight with a 26km ride and maybe even some supplementary weights...

    26km? Fark that - I did THIRTY tonight! Just because I could. Averaging smack on 25km/h too. Feeling absolutely knackered but pretty proud of myself. Just for that I gave myself an extra half a protein shake. Good thing I had pasta for dinner too, because I would have collapsed halfway through on steak and vegies <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':rolleyes:' /><br />
    <br />
    I reckon now I'll keep the same 20km course that goes east from my place as a "sprint" challenge for time trialling and gradually extend the southerly route in order to build up my endurance. I've also decided that I need to get some ground work in on the running/walking side of things, and will be employing that 8 second/12 second thing when I do to check its effectiveness. Nearly impossible to do the 8/12 when cycling due to differing road conditions...<br />
    <br />
    Bad memories of Sunday's eating habits are already fading. :happy:

    I'm not a road rider virgil - I live near one of the bigger motorways in Sydney and it has a separated bike path the whole way along it (40km in total).<br />
    <br />
    There are silly bastards who ride on the highways over here like they own it. The force of a truck driving past at 110 is enough to blow you off your bike. This happened to several people near where I grew up (out in the sticks) who were riding a road barely two lanes wide on a foggy winter's morning. Its very hard for a truck that size to swerve out of the way or stop when you appear out of the fog 100 metres in front of them, moreso when there is another vehicle coming the other way and you have nowhere to go.<br />
    <br />
    However Sydney is gradually coming around to bikes, with more and more bikeways going in. Canberra is especially good for the casual bike rider or commuter, with bike paths running bloody everywhere! Then again, they've had more time and space to plan...

    Good to hear,thats what we need more of here,a guy was killed near where i live only late last year.Lost his leg then never came out of his coma.<br />
    The cyclists blame the drivers,the drivers blame the cyclists.To be fair id say its a bit of both.Nothing worse than driving down the street and theres 4 or 5 riders side by side instead of single file.And they dont seem to like taking notice of the road laws,going thru red lights etc.<br />
    Looking at getting a bike to get fit(walking just doesnt do it for me),but not keen on getting abuse by drivers or worse run over!
