@chchfanatic The Chiefs U18 1st 5 is also a year 12 (Taha Kemara from Hamilton BHS) so not uncommon in the NI either. He's made the 50 for the NZ Schools teams.

The Napier Boys' 1st five (Afa Moleli), who's in the Hurricanes U18, is also a year 12. He should have made the 50, but has been overlooked.

I'm not sure who the other 2 1st 5s selected are. I assume one of the Canterbury players and maybe someone from Wellington.

The Blues U18 team had players selected for the 50 who were only on their bench yesterday.

@Stargazer The blindside flanker Keanu Vanisi is the son of former Highlanders and Hurricanes flanker Kupu Vanisi

@chchfanatic Thanks. Maybe there are two from the Blues region. It would be good to get a breakdown by position of the squad.

It looks like the Highlanders U18s won this afternoon's game 42 to 17.

Harry Godfrey (Whanganui Collegiate) is one of the other 1st 5s so that is three.

@Bovidae said in 2020 NZ Schools:

Interesting also that even though the Crusaders have a reputation of producing 1st 5s this is the second time in recent years they have a 1st 5 from the NI. Previously it was Fergus Burke (St Paul's Collegiate) and now Jack Parker (NPBHS).

There was certainly a proliferation there for a while, but it wasn't gonna last forever. Maybe the STAC 10 from the latter part of the season might come through.

I saw an advertisement for the live coverage of the NZ Schools game (Andy Haden XV vs Alan Whetton XV) on Sky TV today. It is on Friday from 11 am.

I would expect the teams will be named on Wed or Thu.

Speaking to someone at the game they tried to select two evenly matched squads earlier in the week and they trained separately. I won't mention the result for anyone who intends to watch it later.

Have watched the game, and was most impressed with the talent on display. We continue to talk of the quality of the schoolboy game and this crop no exception. This game was a pleasure to watch.Good on the scouts who found the players for the two teams.I thought the winning team played with a bit more connection.

From Dargaville to Dunedin, how on earth do they value the boys against each other, but I didn’t think any of the selected were out of their depth. The time old lack of very tall beefy locks was probably evident, but they still played well.

Fabian Holland, no.5 in the red team is a giant. He's also Dutch, so another European kid playing over here.
