Wellington will have to be a lot better than last week if they are going to get the Shield. The forwards failed to fire against Ta$man so it's on the likes of Blackwell, Fifita and Fidow to lead from the front against a strong Hawkes Bay pack.

I’m also bemused that Toala and McCluthie aren’t starting.

That's straight idiotic, and Baker is back, which is beyond idiotic.

@Nepia Maybe they think they can roll over the top of Wellington with this starting lineup even as a Wellington fan I’m very bemused.

These two plus Isaia Walker-Leawere is on the outer now as well. But good replacements to bring on

Wellington look like a badly coached side this year. Its likely not helping having Blackwell as captain now

I think Wellington have had a couple of games this year where they've faded in the 2nd half. That's a pretty strong bench that Hawkes have got.

IWL is not on the outer. His second half impact is a key component of our style of play.

He’s not being left out because of a midget.

This is Wellington's first challenge since 2014, and only their third since 2006. No pressure then.

Wellington look to have the team members, but not the coaching to go with it

Confusing selection. I thought IWL, the Evans brothers, Fomai and Visinia were HB's best players last week. They have a very potent bench to call on though

I do not understand the rationale behind some of those selections. Like Nepia the continued playing of Kurt Baker beggars belief. The only suggestion I can proffer is that there must be an award for the worst player in the Mitre10 Cup and that Baker is a strong candidate to win that accolade. Would be a shame to hinder his chances of him deservedly winning that trophy by dropping him.

    @Stargazer @Number-10 @Stockcar86 @Paj
Onto my weekly rallying call to members of the HB Tipping Team. We have just got Propsicle in so far so come on the rest of you. We need a full turn out this week as we attempt to upend the Bush for the second time this season in the final of the Championship Division. Admittedly that is not the section either team are accustomed to playing in but thanks to some poor (unlucky?) results earlier that is what we are consigned to. Lets face it 5th is better than 6th! I suspect that the result of the tipping match will probably come down to the result of the Shield Match and I flatly refuse to accept any of the Bay Team to back an away win of any sort in that fixture!

    Tips in gentlemen please

@Stockcar86 Home 17+ Wouldn't that be fantastic. A certain person with very strong connections to the Wellington Lions still to this day denies hiding my large HB flag and scarf five years ago. I am still looking for them so time for some karma Higgins says!

He's been playing decent as a worker lock for a half before we unleash IWL on flagging defences.

Fomai and Visinia are both still there (Fomai is in ahead of Toala which is frankly silly despite the fact Fomai is bloody good), Bryn is only here as a fill in and Gareth is behind Flanders and MMT because he got injured and those two are going awesome (I'd be inclined to follow @Stargazer's lead and play him at 7).

Those aren't the confusing selections, 10, 12 and 15 are.

@Nepia 15 is completely bizarre. He would not happen to have the same Manager as SBW by any chance?

I'd rather we play current league bodied SBW at 15 than Baker. Either way, his manager is worth the percentage he pays him.
