@stargazer at least theyre less likely to go overseas if they have a super gig and so should be available for the magpies too...

@kiwiwomble Exactly, that's why I'm really happy with these signings. MP will probably suffer some serious hidings in SRP and get few wins (maybe v Waratahs, Rebels, Force and/or Drua), but they're getting SR experience and will hopefully return as better players to the Bay.

We'll probably have more Magpies in MP than in the Hurricanes and Highlanders squad in 2022.

@stargazer might have misinterpreted your ".."

@kiwiwomble Yep, both Funaki and Fomai were signed by the Landers for SR T-T, so must have been on their radar. Tbh, I think Enari is a greater loss to NZ franchises, and so will be McClutchie if he's signed with MP.

@stargazer Here I was thinking Holland might have used his one brain cell and sign Formai but oh well good pick up for Moana Pasifika

@daffy-jaffy Excellent to see that confirmed.

    It's YOUR loss, Hurricanes!

Edited to add that this also seems to confirm that he's only NZ-eligible.

@stargazer it's probably a blessing for McClutchie tbh. He isn't better than Ruben Love from what I've seen so it's probably better for him to start somewhere, than be a reserve somewhere else like the Canes.

I hope he goes well and gets plenty of opportunity for Moana Pasifika.

@stargazer interestingly through my contact in the bay , Mcclutchie had been approached by the Crusaders because they would’nt know a good player ..🤦🏻‍♂️ but he had already been snapped up by Moana Pasifika but in all honesty its a joke that he was never on the Hurricanes radar .stoked for the guy..!

Obviously I disagree with you about the Ruben Love bit. I think McClutchie's game management is far superior to Love's. Love is still in the early learning stages in that regard. Love is probably slightly better at kicking the ball into touch (exit play). They're both inconsistent at goal kicking.

I agree McClutchie is better off at MP, because he wouldn't get enough game time at the Canes. Not because Love is better but because Love is one of the new coach's pets.

all jokes aside theyre pretty much just proving this could have just been a "central north island" franchise rather than a Pasifika one

Any indication on the length of these contracts? 1 yr? 2 yrs?

@bovidae Not all the MP signings have been confirmed in an official media release on their website, but of those published, only the one about Kepu's signing explicitly includes a contract duration (2 years).

MP would want to have some consistency in their squad so 2 years would be preferable I would think. It also keeps these players in NZ to play NPC.

    MP media release (McClutchie): https://moanapasifika.co.nz/nau-mai-haere-mai-e-hoa/

    Correction of earlier post:

The media release about Kepu indeed explicitly includes a contract duration (2 years), but also the media release about Christian Leali'ifano's signing:

He has signed with the club for the 2022 season with the option to extend.

@mikey07 Sadly, that's probably what Jason Holland has stuck in his head! 😬

On their instagram page, MP says that the next announcement is a double announcement. They also include two Tongan flag emoji.
