Ah, so they are again coming up north on scouting/recruiting missions like they reputedly did years ago when they routinely pinched a lot of players out of Hawkes Bay. Interesting to note there were no representatives from Zero Fees Southland Polytech nor Otago University named as being present so they are not even hiding behind that these days.

Rototuna has a team in the local comp with help from players from North Waiakto schools. Organised by Taupiri.
S.U.R.F orgainised a combined team last year.
More schools need to be proactive in setting up combined teams for both boys and girls. My sons School doesn't have a team for his age group. He is too old for U14 and not quite big enough for first XV. It was too late to organise a combined team by the time I found out. Rugby at Co-ed schools in Hamilton city has gone to shit. Only Fraser High has a first XV, Melville, Hillcrest, and Fairfield have one U14/15 team each. Rototuna JR/Snr High is the only one going alright with 4 boys teams.
There are a lot of colts teams this year so I think they must have few high school players.

I went along to watch this game. An entertaining game although FAHS were on the wrong side of the ref for most of the game. FAHS had two players sin-binned in the 1st half but did manage to score a try with a player short. In the end St John's took more of their chances, made less mistakes, and played at the right end of the field.

The first part of the Otago competition has finished.
Otago BHS finished in 1st place, followed by Southland Boys' and King's HS.Usually, for the 2nd phase of the competition the bottom or bottom two teams drop down to 2nd division and the top or top 2 from the 2nd division get promoted.
The bottom two of the 1st division are Wakatipu HS and Waitaki BHS.
The top 2 of the 2nd division are Otago BHS 2nd XV and South Otago HS.There's no draw yet for phase 2.
