Thanks for those updates @Higgins. I had several appointments that prevented me from watching the game live. I hope to find the time to watch it later. I'll have close look at McNaughten again. He impressed me in previous games and i hope we have in him another good loosie for the future, that is, if he's not poached by another province. I hope the bloody vultures weren't circling around the field again.

@Stargazer He looked more of a Thomas the Tank No 8 than a Marino Mikaele Tu'u one but then again that just might have been the way they wanted him to play today.
By the way are you going to find a gap in your schedule for the Shield game tomorrow?

@Higgins Unfortunately, I won't be able to make it. It's a pity, because I like these preseason RS matches and the Hutt Rec is a good ground for it.

It's a good thing that the club rugby season is over, because they'd struggle to get enough referees with all the school games, tomorrow (Sat 22 July 2023).

    I haven't seen a team line-up of SJC, yet.

This should be the link to the Hastings Boys' livestream, but they seem to have some technical difficulties, so not sure it will work (properly):

    Edit: still doesn't work properly.

Try to Napier! Not sure what happened there, with the officials deliberating, but I think it was Joel Russell who scored off the quick tap.

    5 - 0 Napier

Hastings hot on attack in the other game, now getting a penalty - I think - deep in Tauranga's half.

    Very good try to New Plymouth after a great line-break from NP's halfback; some poor tackling from Napier, too;

    5 - 7 NP

It is pretty hard wishing bad luck on a team dressed in black and white hoops playing in Napier.

Angus Prouting is a real prospect in that Napier squad. I hope the HBRu have locked him in before the Highlanders lure him to Dunedin, too.

Hastings under the pump in the other game.

@Stargazer Looks to be a decent southerly blowing in directly from Antartica bringing in a rather chilly wind factor. Will probably be helping the visiting New Plymouth team immeasurably in this first half. Napier in for a second try to take the lead to warm me up a bit.

Napier get a penalty close to the NP try line and go for a line-out. The drive is going well and it's a try!

That stream in the Hastings game is really bad. Tribe tells me the score hasn't changed, but are they there or are they watching the same bad stream?

It's a pity the NP defence pushed the Napier player out, because that looked like a great Napier attack. Their line-out is going really well. The calls are good and the throws are accurate, and Napier's tall timber also steal a line-out now and then.

Napier's attack is usually not the problem; their defence is a bit inconsistent.
