    I see Gillies Kaka is leaving Hino Red Dolphins. Not sure whether he's leaving Japan and returning to NZ, but I was wondering. Would you want him back in the Magpies squad to finish his career in black & white? Would he be better than, say, Lolagi Visinia? Gillies just turned 32; Lolagi is 29. Totally different players, physically and skill set.

    Also saw the announcement of Toyota Verblitz about players that are leaving the club. Tiaan Falcon isn't on the list (but his contract expires this year). The man who kept him out of the 10 jersey most of the time, Lionel Cronje, is leaving. Interested to see what Tiaan Falcon is going to do. He hasn't played much this year and has been very, very quiet on social media. I wonder whether he's injured ...

    @Stargazer You nearly gave me a heart attack - I thought that was the jersey for the season.

    The powers that be would not dare tinker with the black and white hoops that have served us so well since 1884. The black stripe up the sides that appears from time to time was almost too much to take but at least the integrity of the hoops remained intact.

    6 June 2022 (Queen's Birthday): preseason game against Manawatu in Pahiatua;
    29 June 2022: Ranfurly Shield game against South Canterbury in Napier;
    15 July 2022: preseason game against Waikato in Tokoroa;
    22 July 2022: preseason game against Auckland in Cambridge;
    30 July 2022: Ranfurly Shield game against Poverty Bay in Napier.

    Is anyone able to go to this preseason game? I fear it won't be livestreamed.

    @Billsy111 I hope it's not true. That's a Kurt Baker type signing all over again! Who would he be replacing?

    @Stargazer That I don't know, but he does create a lot of opportunities.

    @Stargazer I don't think he's a Kurt Baker kind of signing. He doesn't give away stupid penalties, and doest react when provoked. I actually think he would add a lot to that backline.

    The HBRU have started naming - one-by-one - the players that are signed up for the 2022 NPC season.

    First up: Tom Parsons.

    Third player announcement: Kienan Higgins.

    Can't get excited about this signing, but I guess they signed him for 2 years, last year.

    @Number-10 I hoped Cooper Flanders would make the squad. Maybe not allowed because of NZ U20s? On the hand, Harry Godfrey is in the squad. Can't imagine Godfrey not making the NZ U20s, although the differnce may be that Godfrey is a signed Magpie.

    I hope the HBRU are going to post a proper team sheet with numbers, so I don't have to try to figure it out myself haha. Don't know all the players, so don't know what their positions are. I guess I'll have a closer look at the past weeks' club team lists ...

    By the way, the fourth player announcement for this year's Magpies squad isn't unexpected: Jason Long.

    Can someone fill me in with details of these players who I can't recall seeing play or can't recall who they play for please?

    @Higgins

    Josiah Sakaria (MAC) is a good winger, first year out of Hastings Boys.

    Jonty Stewart is a 2nd-year Academy player who last year made the Hurricanes U20 (but hardly got minutes). A 10/fullback. Before that, he was the Feilding HS 1st XV captain.

    Don't know much about Paora Manuel-Harmon, except that he's a back out of Poverty Bay.

    Bayden Papuni (Havelock North) is a lock/loosie, who attended Hastings Boys. Not sure when.

    Damien Scott is a loosie who plays for your own club haha. He's been around for a while. Has repped the Bay in sevens.
