National Hockey League

I only watch playoffs, which should be coming in a couple weeks I guess, but until then…AUSTON MATTHEWS just became first player in a decade to pot 60 in a single season; first Leaf to ever do it (he smashed their single season record of 54 the other week); and the first American player to ever hit that total. He also got 50 goals in a 50 game stretch, which is ridiculously good. Hard to wrap the head around the idea that the biggest hockey superstar in Canada is from Scottsdale, Arizona. Kid has an amazing wristshot, maybe the best I’ve seen. Funny trivia, according to a source via wikipedia, “Initially, Matthews did not have much interest in the sport but was captivated by the Zamboni machine that cleaned the ice during intermissions.”
Here’s all 60 goals (so far…).
Go Leafs Go!!!
-
Big Blues Fan, looking forward to the playoffs
-
Big LA Kings fan. Made it to the playoffs for the first time in a long while and we might go well against Edmonton.
-
@Kid-Chocolate Well in the sunshine states they are starting to play more ice hockey and you’re seeing the US national team having more success against Canada than before. More Americans in the league too I would assume.
-
Bruins fan. Bruins have enough veterans will playoff experience that they could be really dangerous come playoff time.
-
There’s an Australian playing in the NHL?
I had to look him up. I had no idea. Figured he had to have been an Aussie expat who emigrated to North America when he was a toddler, but nope, says here he learned the sport in Sydney.
-
This is what is called Analytics.
-
Way to start a Stanley Cup run. Complete dominance. Fifteen more, let’s go!!
-
@Kid-Chocolate Yep they rolled the lightning. Playoff hockey is freaking excellent. Kings beat the Oilers to with the refs obviously favoring Edmonton.
-
shutout away and a hat trick is a great start!
-
@Kiwiwomble Didn’t see that coming as Minnesota has been looking good recently.
-
@broughie dont think we did either!
-
not over yet...but big reality check
-
@Kiwiwomble Kings were not much better. Need to dispatch Brown and bring in someone with legs and quicker reaction. It is not an old man’s game.
-
Horrible result.
-
Nails were bitten, but good guys held on.
-
@Kid-Chocolate Better than the two thrashings the Kings had.
-
still in this thing
-
Bruins have fought back to tie the series with Carolina 2-2. Feels like it will go 7 games.
-
@Kiwiwomble Sometimes it’s just how they match up because Minnesota just killed the kings during the regular season so I expected them to do pretty well. Hear St Louis has lost a couple of Dman. Never good.
-
@KiwiMurph The Canes lost it today mentally. Still rooting for them because Brad Marchand.
-
This is carnage. It’s now a best of three.
-
Get in! The win and a tarasenko hat trick
-
Boo-birds were out early as hometown Buds dig themselves into a hole, but this was a great hockey game.
-
@Kid-Chocolate Just watching the highlights but it’s a good series. Kings beat Edmonton tonight Now 3 - 2.
-
Blues in 6!
-
oh shit. Game 7…
-
Long suffering Leaf fans, crushed again.
R.I.P.
-
Florida, the powerhouse of the NHL.
-
@Kiwiwomble I thought that series would be closer but the blues were just too good.
-
-
Nazim Kadri gets death threats and protection from the St Louis Police Department, scores a hat-trick, Blues on the ropes.
-
Oilers beat Flames in Game 4, now lead series 3-1. There was some awful goaltending clunkers tonight, one of them is an all-timer from 120 feet. Will post video when it’s up. A real howler.
Update, here ‘tis…
-
clawed one back
-
@Kid-Chocolate Calgary is choking. The kings played better against the oilers.

Probably the nastiest rivalry I’ve seen, in any sport. I loved that Red Wings team, and I always hated Claude Lemieux. Really looking forward to the upcoming doc.
-
@Kid-Chocolate he was nasty but a gamer.
-
I was looking for the clip when Cherry roasted him for costing Canada a World Cup, but couldn’t find it. But I did find this! Watch the whole thing. “The Turtle” and “The Caterpillar.”
And you have to love the comment about old-time hockey Bill Barber (Flyers) being the “best in the world” at diving, but at-least he had honour because he didn’t lay on the ice rolling around when the ref didn’t call it. Still some of the best commentary of all time!

Avalanche score with 5 seconds left in regulation after trailing in 3rd to eliminate Blues.
