@Rancid-Schnitzel i just forked out for wireless ones for running, i'm not buying another set. Especially because i don't plan to go back to swimming laps ever again after June 9
Plus you’d look like a real homo swimming with a cap

What's on the playlist? Actually I think that was a separate thread here years ago.

rather than just a spastic?
A spastic who is kinda drowning?

Caps are for girls to keep the hair out of their eyes.

Get absolutely fucked. The organisers dropped the max temps for wet suits by 2 degrees. Which pretty much runs out wetsuit for Sunday.
I can't swim 1500m in a lake without a wetsuit. I'll sink.
-
@mariner4life ?? so if the air temp or water temp is too warm they don't want you suited up? Is that a health and safety thing? Hopefully they still let you wear your floaties

It's a health and safety thing, it's much easier to swim in a wetsuit so if given the opportunity then everyone would wear one.
If the water is too warm then you run the risk of swimmers overheating.

Just went for a swim to see how i go without any sort of buoyancy aid. The answer is, better than i expected, but still not good enough.
But, i at least left the pool thinking i could do that swim in a month with the right training. That's actually a massive thing for me to be able to say.
I just don't fucking float. I'm doing all the technique things i have been shown, but i just don't float.

Skipped the tri. Good training week though. 2 good rides, 2 good swims, a gym session, and a good run.
Everything seems to be coming along okay. My bike legs feel strong, my swimming is improving (just want to up my speed a bit without burning too much energy) and I can belt out a 55 min 10km run with little stress, and have my breathing pretty much back to normal in under 2 mins.
Two months to go. Start to ramp up my kms a bit now.
-
Good swim! busted out a km in a smidge over 22 minutes, which while slow for most, is quick for me.
Then did 500m with the paddles on which took 13 mins, and i was burning like a mother fucker
two more hundreds to warm down, and it was a 1700m swim in a touch over 40 mins including a couple of rests in between sets.
-
@mariner4life Good effort. If I swam 1700m I wouldn't be able to do anything else.

Nice work, if I were you instead of doing 1,000m in 20 min perhaps I’d do 10 x 100 on 2:20 or 2:30. You won’t improve your speed swimming such long distances.
Even when training for our big lake swim, we never swam more than 800m in one go.
Our average 4km set was something like this
Warm up
400 free
300 pull
200 kick
100 drillMain set
20 x 100 on 1:45
10 x 50 on 1.00
10 x 25 on 40250 warm down
-
@SammyC thanks for that
I actually didn't set out to swim a km, i was doing 500, felt good, so kept going. Only stopped at 1,000 because i wanted to do something else.
It's a great feeling to know the distance is not an issue, i just need to get a bit quicker. At the end of that 1,000 i wasn't even breathing hard really.
I may adapt that set of yours above. I tend not to swim for more than an hour, and i ain't getting 4 kms done in an hour!!

I'm having lunch at Bondi Icebergs. Some fluffybunny has been swimming laps the entire 3 hours i have been here. Non stop. Love to know how far he has swum

That's insane. You must have to just switch your brain off. His shoulders would be aching like a bitch.
Heard a very interesting conversation with Kieran Perkins last night. He's gone to pie and hasn't swum in 18 months. He said without that one overriding goal in mind it's difficult for him to find the motivation to put himself through any more hurt. I guess that explains why many athletes become blobs when they retire. It's all or nothing for them.

Well so many of them keep eating like they did when they trained for hours a day without the exercise to burn it off.

For sure. That's a massive factor as well. I only have to look at my son at the moment. His food bill will be enormous in a few years.

8 massive days on the piss eating rich food. First run after it this morning. No breakfast. Predictable results.

I know what you mean. I hadn't run in six weeks to fix a tendinitis issue in my ankle. Following Easter I went for a run and it took 12 mins to cover the first two kms. It felt like walking but at least I managed to negative split every km after that.
-
God a really good run is uplifting for the spirit and the confidence. Just did my best run ever.
11.5km in 1.01
Maintained my intended pace the whole time (except once where I busted out 4.5 min km by accident) no need for any walking just comfortable.
Best thing was finished not even a bit blown, and breathing was back to normal in less than 90 seconds
