Movie review thread...

This guy makes great videos and has the following take on the new Bond:
What I find so weird is that you would get the woman who voiced that ridiculous droid in Solo to write the script for a Bond film. That's like asking the South Park guys to script a chic flick.
-
@Rancid-Schnitzel the thing I find weird is that I thought the name goes with the agent number. So I don't get how this woman is 007 but not Bond?

She has some credibility as a writer, that’s like judging Waititi on Korg.

No it isn't. What "credibility as a writer" makes her qualified to script a Bond movie. But if you don't like that example, how about George R R Martin being commissioned to write a rom com.

The choice of director has me interested as he was the director of S1 of True Detective.
@Rancid-Schnitzel There appears to be 5 writers including Neal Purvis and Robert Wade.

Well I suppose if you're going to turn 007 into a woman then she's your man.

Yep, she’s clearly been tasked with punching up the humour and making sure the woman are well written.
Sensible to avoid easy targets for the woke brigade.
Not a fan of prejudging a movie based knee jerk reactions to casting and who’s writing part of a script.
In theory, after the last movie, having Bond retired is a good idea. It’s clever to have 007 as a black woman to swot away that casting pressure, as long as Bond ends up back in that designation at the end of the movie.
Let’s them pick who they want for the next one.
If it’s a soft attempt at completely rewriting the character then Bond movies will probably not be very successful from here on.
If the character is successful they could even have spin off movies. Can see why they are doing it.

Idris Elba
Too much of a TV actor. I find him dull on the big screen. Chiwetel Ejiofor might be a better choice.
If they really want to get radical with representation, then they could embrace the unthinkable and cast an unreconstructed London Aussie in the role.

Reckon Tem or Cliff might make a good fist of it.

And Blow.
I skipped that as I figured Hispanic/Latino was covered by Training Day, but I'm guessing he played a Colombian, rather than a Mexican? His range is unreal.
He played Pablo Escobar. Three Kings is such a good movie.
Cliff Curtis can act. If I was choosing a Kiwi Bond I'd probably go for Karl Urban.
