Magpies v Wellington

@Stargazer lol Canterbury could now be last after round 2 if they lose tomorrow.
-
@Canes4life Don't care. I'm mainly looking at the Championship division.

HB should've won at the death, but they blew it. They had numbers out wide multiple times under penalty advantage, but kept it tight instead. Still a good effort to come away with a draw though.
That's what is so annoying. A blatant Wellington coming in from in front of the hindmost foot to prevent to ball coming back forcing the referee to blow for a penalty stopped the chance for a another running of the ball leaving pretty much only the kick for goal option available to the HB team

Is it possible to be so pissed off at one player...?
Fakatava has a got a lot learn about playing rugby at a higher level..?..
As for Ben May, to me that’s a total mental switch off...!..Time to move on even when he did come on the scrum did not have the same dominance...For all that it was a superb game..best of the Mitre 10 Cup thus far..!

Are you allowed to move forward in that situation provided you do not get within the ten metres you must be back from the mark or must you remain stationary at all times?

@Higgins I’m not to sure, but whatever reason it was a total mental switch off from Ben May..the crazy thing about it though I don’t think it was anything like the Shield Snorters best performance but they still found away to claw their way back

I don't know what to feel after having worn my HB jersey all day today whilst helping a mate who has just opened a new cafe in Wellington and making sure all his customers knew where I stood. At least I can use they "well you guys were not good enough to beat us" defence tomorrow!!!! So close yet so far to being able to cock a snook at them though. That dropped ball over the try line followed by the 95 metre try from the resultant scrum made such a massive difference. So too in reality did the rushed missed conversion from the last HB try. God I was close to being insufferable tomorrow (not to mention the next 365 days)! Fcuk I love my team no matter what, even though a lot of the results can leave you frustrated and tearing what is left of your hair out.

@Steven-Harris It's a bit of a mixed bag for me. We could have won the game, and probably should have in the end, but considering we came back from 8 points down, I'm reasonably okay with the result.
I feel that our forward pack - as a whole - was better than Wellington's, but they have the better backline.
Danny Toala is a super talent. I hope his injury isn't serious.

@Stargazer pretty wrapt with the draw given where they were sitting with several minutes to go .this was always going to be a good test for the Bay especially with Wellington’s offload game..they probably needed Mason Emerson to take that final pass at the end.
The key with playing a team like Wellington is to stay in the fight ,they have an amazing backline, but if you can take them into an arm wrestle your a chance..,but I will say they have some serious weapons in the backs..Aso and Goosen especially, I must admit I was incredibly impressed with Teariki Ben Nicholas..looks like a real athlete.

From memory you can't make sudden movements on penalty kicks. Refs occasionally tell players to stay still.
I have said this for years but nothing in rugby....literally nothing annoys me more than a halfback taking a quick tap. My research shows that in the 1000 studied 750 resulted in a turnover from isolation or a stuff up, 200 resulted in a loss of the potential gain a simple kick would have provided. 49 ended up neutral to what the better option would have been and 1 paid off.

This is from the WR Law Book
LAW 20 Penalty and free-kick
OPPOSING TEAM AT A FREE-KICK
16. As soon as the kicker initiates movement to kick, the opposing team may charge and try
to prevent the free-kick being taken by tackling the kicker or to block the kick. -
Good game to watch. ACT Jnr and I were watching and found ourselves even cheering for the Shield Snorters late in the 2nd half to come back.
But we were a bit disappointed they didn’t go for the win but 3 points is a good result.
Impressed with the Lions forwards, but Shield Snorters backs really came to the fore when they needed to.

@Stargazer surely that must be a kick for touch. Can't take a shot on a free kick
