Only thing worth watching

Over the four day Easter break I downloaded Amazon Prime (free for a month) and watched ‘ The Test’. (I think it’s ten 50min episodes) similar to the one they did on the All Blacks during the Lions tour but this time they follow the Aus cricket team post that extraordinary ball tampering incident.
I highly recommend switching this one on as they go behind the scenes through their tour to India, the One Day World Cup and the Ashes. I found it quite interesting to see how JL went about his work and how the likes of Smith and Warner were re-introduced to a new team dynamic.
Trailer:
There are a few other good behind the scenes sports doco-series on Amazon Prime - the likes of the All Blacks, Dallas Cowboys, Phili Eagles etc.

@Canes4life i've been rewatching 30 for 30. Every episode is in the Foxtel on demand library

It's very rare to ever get any (English language) articles on the financials side of French Top 14 clubs.
Here is something from rugbypass. Although, it reads like they have found a french article online and put it through google translate, and then tried to provide some comment on it. It reads kind of strange.

@Rapido One small positive from this impending financial disaster is that playing rugby in NZ will suddenly be a lot more attractive. I can't see the telephone numbers funded by sugar daddies in the NH continuing. If we can keep our talent here, we'll be a damn sight better as a team. It's the mid range that got stripped out by NH player drain that's hurt us.
I don't think SA win the RWC last year if they pick only domestic players. We talked extensively aobut the gaps in our team that we'd be able to fill from the NH if we could -- noting I'm still opposed to pickign overseas players.

Covid-19 spells the death of Todd Greenburg's time as NRL CEO. Not that he did anything wrong, it's just that when the music stopped, he was left without a chair.
The NRL clubs and players are fucking shameless. Spend years asking for more and more of the pot, which they then waste on bloated budgets, then whinge when it turns out there isn't a shitload of money laying around to keep paying them to not play.

It sounds like Greenberg didn't do anything, period. V'landys was the only one getting things done and delivering on his promises.
-
@Bovidae I'll take anything that germ Paul Kent writes about Greenberg with a large pinch of salt. He can't stand him, and has actively been campaigning to get rid of him for ages
He'll start on the next bloke in 12 months as well. He just hates the NRL head office
V'landys has come in and ridden rough-shod all over everything as well. Pretty sure he locked Todd out of the broadcast negotiations.
I'm not defending Greenberg, but i think the NRL CEO is the last sporting job in the county i would take.
-
I'm not a fan of Kent either.
There were rumours recently that Greenberg was trying to oust V'landys so it must have been a strained relationship. NRL HQ have wasted so much money with their exorbitant salaries and bloated staff numbers. No sympathy from me.
As for Greenberg's exit, it must be the Doggies curse with former CEOs.

the Club's are no better. Because certain clubs have created an arms race that most can't win

English club rugby is targeting a July restart to the suspended Gallagher Premiership season with plans for teams to play two games a week – but Twickenham is not expected to be the sole stadium used for the 57 remaining fixtures.
.....
A newspaper report had claimed that English Rugby HQ would stage all the remaining games as the stadium’s adjacent Marriott hotel was seen as a perfect way to keep the players safe in a controlled environment.Would be a good use of the Twickers hotel, which would be getting no to not much use.
Got me thinking a bit about Wasps. Wasps have huge debt as a gamble on making the Ricoh Arena complex profitable in the future. The complex is the stadium, the arena and a hotel. All of those are dead at the moment.
From 12th March: Wasps group lose nearly £5m in six-month period ...

@Bovidae the other question you have to ask is 180 staff? WTAF? For how many professional unions?
Professional bodies can go one of two ways - stay small, streamlined and efficient, or bloat. Pretty sure all the rugby development folk are employed by unions too, rathe rthan NZRU.

looks like AFL back the same weekend as the rugby
