@Nepia Handi Hangi? Yep still there. There’s a donut place next door to it now that basically sells a heart attack with a hole in the middle. As you can imagine in the ‘stings it sells out by about 8:30 in the morning.
That's just low bro, telling me about this knowing I can't come home .

So, still in lockdown. Went into work twice the last week for meetings.
Last week was 7 years since the old man died. A few days after that my daughter turned 13.
On Monday they announced a restructure at work. I still have my job, but my reporting lines have changed in a way that pleases me not.
My Line manager doesn't change, which is great.
But he's got a new boss, which is the issue, without going into detail.
Additionally, they broke up our very effective team into two separate areas. Which lacks any form of logic. So tonight I had a beer

Glad your job is safe, restructures suck!

Its all about the bottom line. They blow stuff up then leave the mess for others to clean up

not always, sometimes a square team making money needs to fit into the round hole, so they fuck it up until it fits...
-
@canefan @taniwharugby they're restructuring to reduce headcount*, but nobody in my immediate team or the wider team are affected, so I've no idea why they're breaking us up now.
What really shits me is we'd just signed off on all our performance goals for the year. Hopefully the strategy I put together with the line manager sticks.
The other guy coming with our half of the team is really pissed off. One of the tech leads in the team we're joining resigned yesterday and said to him "Good luck with {Manager A} and {Manager B} because they're impossible with work with".
The team we're joining has a reputation for burning through consultants and cash but its a Cannot-Fail that is vital to the business.
*In another area but related to our Division - and good thing as there are some duds there.

Mate, I've just ticked over 13 years at this place, so my redundancy payout (which caps at 10 years) would be about 25 weeks' salary all at the lowest tax rate.
Half a year's pay in one whack, a short career break, and a resume littered with desirable experience and training? Yeah I'll take that.

My place of work thrived over lockdown. I got a new car, pay rise, bonuses all paid out in a lump sum......lockdown was awesome for me career wise.
But it hasn't been like that for everyone, a really good mate lost his job cos of this fucken virus. I happily shouted him more than a few last time we caught up as he was there for me when I was doing it tough. Hopefully he lands on his feet soon.

Yeah and in the couple of catchups we've had since the boss says "Hey guys at least we've still got jobs" which is a good point
BUT that won't mean a fucking thing if the aftermath is just the kind of shit attitude and management for which I was ready to leave 3 years ago. That was the plan: take a month off, spend some of that going solo around NZ for a bit of time alone, and then go looking for work with some payout dosh in the sky rocket.
At least I've got contacts in the building should I need to jump. Can probably pick up another 20-30% with the right position.
-
@NTA yea I had a similar payout after my redundancy, still had moments after where I was worried about being able to get a job, should we go back to UK...in the end took all of 5 weeks to get a job, and 4 weeks to move internally at that one, then a year later I got the job I'm in now.
It is just a shit situation when upheaval is for no logical reason...fuck the restructure we went through the morons had budgeted for half the team relocating to Auckland, yet none did....I mean yea sell up here and buy in Auckland, so out of touch.

@NTA just one???
Turns out that the IT change requiring verification was cancelled, so I should have cracked on.
But I'm just not motivated at this point. Got a FB ban for a week as well apparently - sending an MA15+ picture via FB messenger apparently breaches Communit Standards these days.

@Nepia They made the decision to close very early in lockdown. Need overseas tourists to make their business model work. Unsupportable if relying solely on domestic diners Shame.
I was able to get there one last time just before Covid and the Bay is still rich in dining options.
So it turns out Elephant Hill is reopening kind of. 3 nights a week only. Looks like Black Barn’s exec chef is running both. That bodes well I think.

Merry Effing Halloweenies people! What did Boris gete me for my brithday, lockdown that's what!
