So just binge watched end of S1 and all of S2 of the Mandalorian over the last couple of days. All I can say is that THIS is Star Wars. It was clearly written by people who not only get and love SW, but can actually develop a great plot and, most importantly, great characters.
> Funny how the same people who apparently only hated the sequel trilogy because of misogyny and racism are now fapping wildly over a series with minorities in pretty much every major role and strong asskicking females everywhere.
My only quibble is how clueless people seem to be about the Jedi. It’s not like this was ancient history and they hid in the shadows. But this kind of thing can be forgiven with great characters and storylines. Now all they have to do is retcon the sequels and my journey back from the Dark Side will be complete.
Hispanics, Black Dudes, Asian chicks.......fuck it even has Maoris and bald gingas !
In terms of the Jedi and lack of knowledge I can only assume the Empire had a massive propoganda team who wiped all trace of them from existence ?
Maybe, what I thought was really good was how you had the hard core Empire loyalists spouting off about how great the Empire was. Explains how it could be preserved and how it wasn’t just the Emperor and Vader and a bunch of storm troopers. Trouble is that it makes a cartoon villain like Hux look even more absurd. Fark Favreau et al are showing up the morons behind the sequels.
Obviously small sample size but was at at Boxing Day bbq and mentioned that I’d be reclining on the sofa most of the day binging on the Mandalorian. Several others mentioned how good it was and how much better it was than the sequels and then some of the kids piped up and said the same thing. It seems a lot of kids are indifferent to SW these days because there is so much competition from Marvel and computer games. You need your Mandos, Bobas, Caras etc to compete. Astonishingly enough, the likes of Rose, Holdo, grumpy Luke, and woefully underdeveloped Rey, Finn and Poe don’t seem to cut it.
Add IG 11, Kuill, Greef Carga, Fennec, the female Mandos the Marshall and of course baby Yoda as genuinely compelling new characters. That’s not even counting the ones who have been brought back.
New trilogy doesn’t compare, someone should have told a Finn that running round shouting ‘Rey’ a lot isn’t cool.....and I’ve already given my thoughts on the other shite characters.
Rogue One had some very cool characters (particularly the droid) but they killed all of them. Hopefully the droid is in the new show because not a fan of the Mexican main dude.

Such a racist bigot.
I wonder if @Virgil is on the Mando bandwagon or if he’s still playing with his Finn, Rose and Holdo figures ?

We went over this idea a while back and think we all agreed to disagree
I’m with you, think it’s weird how little mando knows, especially give he travels to different planets unlike those confined to one. We saw the explosion of the Death Star broadcast in the bar of a forgotten town on tattoine...and the details of what happened never followed this? People just accepted the empire had fallen and had no questions
Others disagree
I’m happy to look past it because of all the other awesome stuff The Mando has brough us

You got me there. He’s actually a really physically imposing and charismatic character. He’s the new Han! But I just can’t abide him being from Mehico. Same with Rose too. Such an awesome well developed and vital character. But she’s female and Asian and thus is hated exclusively for those reasons.
I’m assuming he’s awol after having his mind blown by the Mandalorian!

That last part sums it up. Difficult to give a crap when the rest is so good. A bit of mystery certainly makes it more interesting than “Ah yes, he’s a Jedi. Know them well.”

So, I've had to avoid this thread as I was delaying watching until all the episodes were out and then was in the middle of other things. Tried to read the whole thread from when I last checked in (somewhere in the 130s), but the thread seems to be 30% Mando and 70% whinging, so I stopped reading so apologies if I go over the same ground as everyone else.
Anyway, here's my thoughts on the season.
Better than S1 for me even though I thought it got off to a slow start. I like that they just make each episode as long as it needs to be and don't extend them for the sake of it.
The effects are awesome, everything looks completely real (unlike the prequels). The ships look realistic, if they're newish they look clean, if they're old and worn they look that way. @canefan I even thought Luke looked bloody good, especially in comparison to Leia and Moff Tarkin in Rogue One. TBH, I enjoyed that scene more than the Darth Vader scene at the end of Rogue One, but I always had issues with the editing for that.
Was that X Wing pilot Apa from Kim's Convenience?
I thought Tem was pretty good as Boba Fett, did a bit of taiaha style fighting in one scene too. I'm actually looking forward to his series.
Bill Burr was great, I wonder if they'll bring him back once a season now. The dude can actually act, I also saw him The King of Staten Island recently which he was also good in.
The final episode was almost a BSG episode - the launch bays for the Tie Fighters were very BSG looking, the Dark Troopers were very Cylon reminiscent, and Starbuck was there.
The only thing that annoyed me was when the two lady snipers were just standing up looking down rather than concealing themselves in the Bill Burr episode. We know Storm Troopers can't shoot for shit but I didn't think they were actually blind.
There's lots of the Empire still floating around in the outer universe - I can see why the First Order found it easy to rebuild. Although, it's clear that all the good Storm Troopers were killed in the war because this lot make A New Hope's look competent.
-
Disney Gallery The Mandalorian has started for the second season - the first episode was 64 minutes long. and primarily about each of the directors of each episode. Currently no more episodes scheduled, but I hope they expand it to 8 like the first series.

It was apa!
I think I saw he might be in rangers of the new republic series

can we talk about the Dark Saber for a second, Bo refuses to take it from Mando because it needs to be won....didn't Sabine give it to her in the first place?

I'm really struggling with some of your phrasing today and it is cracking me up.
The dark saber (use your imagination). Bo refuses to take it from Mando...but Sabine is well up for it right from the get go.
I am clearly not a Star Wars fan - but I have a filthy mind and might well become a fan if this is anything to go by.

@Kiwiwomble Mando does have an impressively big, shiny helmet.
