Movie review thread...
Just watched Avatar in 3D . Amazing , must see movie. I reckon it will make James Cameron even more squillions. It has a basic plot (just like Star wars, Superman etc) but is so well done ,only the most cynical (cue to fern reviewers) will diss it,
<br />
<br />
I was skeptical after seeing the preview but saw a more in-depth show on it last night and it does look pretty amazing. What I'm wondering about is it if humans are able to to develop the technology to travel such vast distances and turn a guy into an alien how come they don't have the tech to make him walk again? -
Has any one seen JCVD? Heard good things but never actually got round to watching it.
<br />
<br />
I saw it and was expecting good things due to the reviews. Personally, I found it boring and just couldn't get it into it. I still found there were a few good scenes though. -

Fuck, that was exactly what I was thinking. And if they can warp through space how come they have planetery energy problems? Can't turn that part of my brain off now. -

They do , you will have to watch the movie. My suggestion definitely watch the 3D version. -
I do love the fact that folk can readily accept 10 foot tall blue aliens but question the scientific legitimacy of future health care standards & feel they lack realism <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' /> <br />

Not a review, but I shit myself in excitement yesterday when watching this - <br />

I know its probably going to more 300 than Gladiator, but fuck me its a cracking trailer<br />
<br />
Oh, on the review front, saw A Serious Man, very very good movie but seemed more like an exercise in film making & less like a film. One of those for people to talk about how wonderful it was to make others feel they are deep thinkers, like the way people cite Citizen Kane as a clasic despite it being boring as all fuck. Still, it was pretty good, but more in a Man Who Wasn't There way from the Coen Brothers, rather than Burn After Reading or Lebowski -

I fucking know dude. Sam Worthington must have holes in his jeans by now... But how good does this look. Its like Jason and the Argonauts on roids. <br />
<br />
On the Citizen Kane thing, but from way out in left field, I remember years ago reading a Empire interview with Steven Seagal. He claimed that On Deadly Ground was his Citizen Kane. I had not seen Orson Welles yet but decided to watch both. How fucken confused was I. <br />
<br />
I was only 17 though. -

That looks pretty good, I got the whole LOTR ROTK feel form that clip myself... -

<br />
Yes good point but but I still find it weird that amidst all these aliens and impossible technology theres a guy sitting in a wheelchair. Kind of like how in Star Wars Anniken has to keep walking around with that gold mechanical contraption for an arm.... I'll stop now.<br />
<br />
Cheers for posting that trailer. Shit that looks cool.<br />
<br />
BTW Citizen Kane is a great film though I admitt that if you knew about Rosebud before watching then it could be a bit boring. -
Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus eusa_whistle <br />
<br />
Bear in mind I got this out in the hope that it would be "so cheesy and bad it would be good" in a Snake on a plane type way....<br />
<br />
Sheesh don't fucken bother. Shocking shit on any number of levels with the horrific acting only surpassed by the horrific special effects. They were so bad they actually showed the shark swimming in the same shot about 10 times. Not only can a giant shark leap out of the water and bite a jumbo jet out of the sky a giant octopus can swat a supersonic jet. <br />
<br />
I think the giant monsters were only on screen for a total of about five minutes. The rest was spent with Deborah Gibson ( remember her ? shes still not too bad ), an asian guy and an irish guy mixing liquids and doing scientific stuff for no apparent reason. <br />
<br />
Remember my initial sentence, "so bad its bad, no so bad it's good...."<br />

Inglorius Basterds, this movie is 2.5 hours long.... xzxscratch_one-s_head <br />
<br />
It is an ok movie with a decent enough story, but it is 2.5 hours long, it was not good enough to be that long I am afraid! -
warning for those with kids ~ "the dog who saved Christmas" is by far the worst fucking movie ever made. It has talking animals and they couldn't even be arsed doing CGI to get mouths to move or even given them peanut nutter (Mr Ed) so you get a dog sitting there doing nothing with a voice over, then it pans to another dod doing nothing with a voice over.

Watched that last night although I watched in instalments so it didnt feel as long. I really liked it. Nobody does dialogue like Tarantino. I lived in Germany about 12 years ago and it was hilarious for me to see Austrian tv actors (Jew Hunter and the Austrian jew) in a major Hollywood film. The guy that played Jew hunter will win an oscar for sure. 8 out of 10. -

As I was scrolling down i saw that come up and instantly started laughing. Didn't even need to read the rest.<br />
<br />
Still laughing now.
<br />
<br />
BUt Razbra it was SOOOOOOOOOOOO awesome eusa_whistle and besides all the District 9s had been rented out.....<br />

it was ok, for me about 6.5/10, but just seemed way too long xzxunknown Thought the Jew Hunter and Pitt were both very good though. -
Watched Happiness for the first time in about 10 years the other night. Bloody good movie, dark as fuck, not for everyone - last scene between father and son is brutal. Jared Harris was good - who knew he could play a russian. Obviously I've been watching too much Fringe.

Saw Avatar in 3-D last night, excellent movie but you would really have to see it in 3D to appreciate it e.g. some of the movie would be lost in translation with-out the 3D effects.<br />
<br />
Thought it was excellent, seamless integration of real and CGI, entertaining storyline and visually stunning - a little blunt in it's delivery though...<br />
<br />
Ironical in that this movie somewhat appeared to represent what happened between the American's and the American Indian's, can't help but feel it's a little sanctimonious... -

I enjoyed it, but wasn't sure about the 3D. It felt a little gimmicky, and with all the brilliant CGI on display I'm not sure it needed it.<br />
<br />
I will say it's the best CGI I've ever seen, I didn't see a single bad effect and the aliens looked utterly real. A real landmark in the technology, it was like a couple hundred gollums being on screen, but even better than that CGI.<br />
<br />
The story was fine, very predictable but that's not a problem for this type of film. And I'm not convinced about Sam Worthington, he's fine in a Colin Farrel sort of way, but like him I have no idea how he's getting these movies. He was very earnest, and with some of the dialogue he bloody needed to be.<br />
<br />
I'd give it a 7/10 and will see it again on a normal screen.
