The way it should work is that if you follow left leaning, they recommend right leaning and vice versa.
No thanks
I'm reasonably well read on political theory, my degree was related to that and I still read plenty on that topic. I've also read loads of leftist thinkers but I firmly consider myself in ~3 over lapping but relatively niche right wing groups.. I use social media to follow what I want. The algorithm should (and does) suggest people I may be interested in
Understood and I'm not saying you are wrong. Perhaps should was the wrong word to use. I have no problems with any of the above and I'm not suggesting opposite thinking should be forced upon you.
If the service tried to 'correct' my thought because of some fetishisation of the centre (the centre of what exactly? Who decides what gets averaged out? etc etc) I would immediately quit
I'm not saying that any sort of correction is required. I'm simply adding context on my original post to refute suggestions that Twitter is now just a right wing propaganda platform. I'm also saying that under the For You part, in my view (should was the wrong word to use here), some opposite positions is the better thing to do.
As opposed to more left wing positions, which is what Twitter undoubtedly was.
I'm aware of the bubble issues that raises. In some cases it's a valid concern but most of the time it's overblown and it's about control.
Correct, the world is heavily divided, and twitter shares alot of the blame, in my opinion. As people don't really acknowledge the opposite political spectrums points anymore. Simply call people who disagree bigots etc. This is a direct transplant from the twitter world to the real one.
A narrow focus and also using lists probably helps keep the quality of what I see high
