Re: Movie review thread...

  • What the hell wast that movie.. xzxshok

  • Zardoz I think. Sean Connery is easy to categorise. If he has hair in the movie avoid it like the plague

  • Yes Zardoz, amusingly bad.

Eh ? he had hair in ALL the Bonds ! Crazy talk dogmeat. Mind you most probably true in every other case....

The Rock, The Hunt For Red October, Highlander has hair in all of those and all are pretty good.

I think any movie where he has some floppy fringe type deal going on is likely to be crap..Or obviously pony tail.

I counter with Red October and several Bond films...

  • Yeah OK xzxflag_of_truce there are exceptions to every rule but as a rough rule of thumb since he lost his hair its not a bad guideline xzxcool

  • Just wanted to add to the votes upthread for "Up" - went to a 10 am screening of that last week, took the 7 month old along to one of the baby friendly screenings.

A poignant, funny and quite moving film. A simple story, fantastical in nature - but with real heart and hope in it. It sounds like sickly sweet viewing fare - but it's not.

I really enjoyed it - and as my baby fell asleep halfway through I got to watch it with her small head on my shoulder. It was primo. A Pixar film for kids to enjoy the story, but for adults to savour the meaning.

  • The trailer for Martin Campbell's feature film remake of his own Edge of Darkness miniseries is online:

    http://movies.yahoo.com/premieres/16083 ... dardformat

EDIT: And it looks about as bad as Gibson's accent sounds.

  • Bit of hype around Paranormal Activity. Sounds like another Blair Witch.

    Anyone caught it yet?

  • Magic Man; Billy Zane

In spite of the lack of any big name actors, a decent storyline, and decent actual acting, it still sucked!

  • GI Joe - pretty average, some good action scenes mixed with silly action scenes; 5.4/10

The Ugly truth, Kathryn Heigl - new age Rom/com? A few of these now obviously with a bit more male oriented content trying to draw in the male veiwers better? I quite liked it, had some good laughs, with the obvious ending...for the girls 7.4/10

Expendable goodness, the 80s make a comeback!
Dead link.

  • Watched 'Knowing' on the weekend and thought 3/4s of the movie was average and the last 1/4 was crap. Wouldn't recommend it.

  • Just watched Star Trek . The one that starts when they all meet at the Federation Acadamy . Wee bit cheesy in places but the Romulan bad guys are cool and the story is pretty bloody watchable as well . 7.5/10.

  • I have just introduce my daughter to the entire series of Indiana Jones. She had seen the new one but not the others. She watched all of them back to back. Couldn't pull her away. She thought the worst was the newest one. The best is Raiders and then The Last Crusade. So she has taste.

They are still every bit as watchable as they were when I was her age. We all know how good they are but if you have kids of an acceptable age(though my 2 yo has been sitting here with us...)
then get into it. They will love them!

  • Step Brothers, went in not expecting much (never really been a fan of Will Ferrell), but was suprised as it was at times bloody funny. Easily his best work. Crude but some great laughs.

    7.5/10

  • Just watched Final destination in 3-D, utterly appaling movie - terrible, absolutely terrible. 3-D was very cool though, my personal advice if you want to watch a 3-D film save your $$ for a Christmas Carol - who's 3-D trailer was probably the highlight of going to see final destination...

  • the real question on everynes minds, was that really THE FINAL Destination?

  • Orphan; a young couple with 2 young children adopt a girl from an orphange, but all about her is not as it seems.

    Pretty good thriller/almost horror, 7/10.

Like all movies of this genre, there are moments where you sit there knowing you'd have done something different, but all in all, pretty good.

  • Following on from something mentioned earlier....

Anyone seen Paranormal Activity yet? Really haven't heard anything other than official reviews and wanted a 'man in the stand' take on it

  • Saw the Invictus trailer today. Looks ok I guess. The fake nose on Matt Damon looks worse than he one in oceans 13(and that was supposed to look bad).

I don't want to go and watch this hoping they make a lot of noise about the AB's but I hope they keep it faithful to what happened.

  • "The Escapist" is the best film I have seen for ages. Watch it asap.

Is that the one with Joseph Fiennes and Brian Cox?

A film by Eastwood and with Freeman as a lead role, credibility right off the bat.

  • The Proposal, Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock - another one the wife got me to watch, a few good laughs, easy to watch, now as sickly as alot of Rom-Coms out there, but stil one none the less.

  • Watched the suckiest movie last night. (Forgotten the name)

It was a Scouse version of a Snatch/Rock n Roller/Lock Stock. It was simply terrible.

Nothing worse that a movie entirely made of Scousers tring to be gangster cool! IT DOESN"T WORK!!!!

So its pretty good eh? Im not a big fan of Fiennes but huge fan of Cox(that sounds dodgy as but im leaving it in).

I'll give it a go. Watched Bronson the other day. Massive head fuck is that one. Good in a Clockwork Orange type way.

  • I'll 2nd the escapist. It was a really good movie and quite unexpected. Fiennes is actually pretty good in it.

Yeah, it reads ok on the cover but is just so bad.

Ended up fast forwarding through bits just to see the end which was predictable and and dull. Didn't help that I had watched Rock n Roller the night before for the umpteenth time

  • They showed a pretty long trailer for Avatar in the Seattle NFL game on TV here today.
    Looks bloody good.

  • Fan Boys.

Super fans - go to steal the script for Star Wars I ..... and the adventures they have on the way.
