Fatbusting: Kirwan's log

  • 20th Feb

    Weight: 85kgs

    Goal weight: 75kgs

    Weight Lost so far: 2kg

Estimated time to achieve: 2 months

Plan of attack: Four blocks of one hour cadio per week (running, cycling, rowing) plus weights and improved diet

    Day: 37

    One hour Cardios: 13
    Games of Squash: 7

    Alcohol:
    13 days without (First Block)

    11 days current block.

Have changed the approach slightly, having a cheat day once a week. So for Alcohol and Junk Food, the first figure is the number of weeks where I’ve only had one cheat day a week. The second figure is the number of days to the cheat day.

You guys have motivated me to get back into this, and my my belt size just went up one rung! Am also going to start walking to work in the mornings to up the general exercise level I get (stuck at a desk all day is crap). Once I get to 75kgs, I see if I need to lose anymore.

    First month, no alcohol.
No Alcohol is a big call mate.  Why not just aim to at least halve your intake.  That's what i'm doing.  Plus ya dopey bastard (said humourously) we've got a piss-up on the 4th!!!

  • Ahh, I sort of can't make that now.

Something to do with coming back from a bender at 7am, without letting the wife know where I was. My excuse that I was too drunk to remember to text went down real well.  I've also been feeling rough as guts and getting sick really easily for the last three or weeks, so time for a break.

Pregnant?  Or maybe you just look it, hence the diet.  😁

    Hey - I can't talk.

  • Feel pregnant Thanks for the pep talk!

Am run down, that's all. Add in a stressful time at work and you get ill very easily.

Heeeere Puss puss puss puss!  Bowl of milk ready!

It's just a rugby game.  You don't have to drink  :sealedlips:

  • Right, have ordered my dumbells for later this week and booked four days of work (have to use up the rest of my holidays) to jump start my gyming.

Yeah, I was musing with a colleague about this yesterday. We have 10 years experience between us, and about a handful of days off sick. The trouble is that litigators are most likely to get sick at the pointy end of cases-- due obviously to stress-- which is precisely when it is impossible to take time off. So you battle through...

The advantage of being a nerd, I can essentially work from home.

    First kg is off.

  • Met my target of four hour cardios per week. Having a rest day to let the soreness go away a bit then back into it tomorrow. Weights arrive this week, so will add that in to the program.

  • Have now lost 2kgs, maintaining the 1kg a week rate so far. My belt has gone in one notch and is feeling loose, so heading towards the next one.

Have definitely gained some muscle in there, so that makes me happier with the weight loss.

Hit a wall yesterday, energy levels were terrible and the gym was a slow, long slog. Still feel crap today.

Going to do another cardio session today, and squash with Hooroo tomorrow then I might take two days off. After tonight it will be 7 hour cardios in 8 days.

I think that's the Forum's first officially notified belt notch! Well done sir!

  • Think I have made an amateurs mistake of buying a new set of scales (Hard to see the readout properly on the other one). And of course I weigh a different amount. Fark it.

  • Yeah you gotta recalibrate your goal now - its all relative to the set of scales you're using. Ours weight a bit on the heavy side compared to the electronic whizz-bang jobs at Mrs the Aussie's work (and its a hospital so you'd think it was pretty accurate) so while I'm 117 at home I might be 115 Maybe? 😕

  • I gained half a kilogram when I moved my scales from the living room to the bathroom. They were quickly moved back on the grounds of space management.

  • I make sure mine are on the same surface every time before stepping upon them.

  • Thou art as wise as thou art rotund

  • Then I am 2.5% less wise than I was on New Year's day.

And why are you using humour and a smiley? Did you crack and open a cask of Banrock under the desk? :nta

  • The only thing MvJ has just cracked open is a blackcurrant and apple tea-bag and it is fucking disgusting.

As for the smiley, I am a Moderator posting on a fellow Moderator's thread. MvJ is obliged to be gregarious, charming and otherwise on his best behaviour.

  •
and otherwise on his best behaviour.
Back to my point....

  • Righto, I put the two scales next to each other and confirmed I have lost 2kg on the orginal scales. Adding the 2 kgs to new weight on the new scales makes it 85kg (the heaviest I've been ever) and I've kept the target the same. Nice round figure of 10kgs to lose, 8kg to go.

Was very demotivated last night, still got the hour cardio in and the diet has been very good.

  • Righto, discovered the level of my will power. Sitting in a pub for two hours is all I can take before I need a drink.

Chose a ladies drink if Gin and Tonic and had three of those, and then some chips, and a burger. Fark it.

So I lastest 13 days off the alcohol and 9 days off the junk food. Was a small overstep though, so am going to follow Bartman's advice and add in a cheat day once per week.

  • Kirwan, did you feel the alcohol much more than usual? I'm not going cold turkey but have cut back to the medically recommended weekly level (about 1/4 of normal) and after only 3 weeks notice the effects of 3 drinks.  Normally they wouldn't even wet the whistle.

Had hoped that cutting back on the alcohol would mean an easy weight loss but doesn't seem to have happened.

  • Not after three small drinks and a meal.

My wife hasn't been drinking much for a few months and two glasses of wine knocked her for six.

In a story I will post somewhere else in detail, MvJ was practically evicted from a party last night due to intoxication. I had consumed about six drinks. And I had four on Thursday (two of which were beer) and was off my fucking tits.

Anyway, it was a bit of a wakeup call so Kirwan the challenge is on! MvJ is giving up the grog and will see your 13 days and raise you some. If you thought last's night's game was a beating, it will be nothing compared to what is going to occur 😁

Trading in Banrock Station shares has been suspended...

  • You won't last 5 days

  • It's been 10 hours and already I feel like shitÂ

I did manage last Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday without any grog though. However come the end of the week I may have to ask to be banned from the Sports Forum as a sort of preemptive strike...

  • Weekends are tough, especially when there's rugby on.

I'm taking the approach now of drinking only one day a week, and less when I do it (no shots, etc). I do feel much better for the break.

So you're seeing less of your brother then...Â

  • It is novel feeling better in the morning. I never felt crap but its all relative - feel better now than I used to.  Not sure I like it 😕

Nah, he's turning into Bartman with his rowing obsession. He's just bought a Concept 2.

  • Had a three day break from exercise, went back last night and had the best session I've had so far. Increased the rowing to 5kms (The most I've I've ever rowed) and I've found a new favourite exercise. Fell off the damn thing exausted, but feeling great if that makes sense.

So far the weight loss has stayed at 2kg, but I have seen a definite increase in muscle, especially my legs.

  • Bloody good job Kirwan; MvJ was just browsing your log wondering what had happened to you, so it's nice to see you spent some of the time exercising. MvJ presumed you had gone on the mother of all benders

Actually our current and target weights are quite similar.

  • Planning a good drink on Saturday, so far over the last 17 days I've had three gin and tonics (small ones too) - so bugger all really.

I reccomend rowing as an all over body exercise, I'm sore from between my ankles and neck.

  • Stoked with myself this morning. Got to the gym at 6:45am, did my hour cardio, beat my 5km rowing time and I have squash with Hooroo tonight.

Now to practice sleeping with my eyes open at work.

  • Great exercise day yesterday, game of Squash with Hooroo and an hour gym in the morning. However, it has farked my back so now I need to rest.

On the positive front, I tried on a jacket today that I had stopped wearing as it was a bit tight and I couldn't do it up. I can now do it up with room to spare, so even though the weight isn't coming down I'm still heading in the right direction.

  • If the scales don't give you joy, head for the tape measure

  • Still hanging in there. Weight loss in stuck in concrete boots, but am not worrying too much at the moment about what I actually weigh – going on the clothes fitting approach.

Squash with Hooroo has shocked the body a bit, after last Thursdays game I had problems with my back so took a few days off exercise them promptly got sick and had to take Monday off work.

Got back on track with another game of squash yesterday, and will be back to the gym tonight. Only got three exercise sessions in last week so this week I’m going to do five to maintain the four a week thing.

Diet has been good, but I think I went a bit far on my cheat day, and ate far too much. Need to tone that down a bit.

  • Had a great week of exercise last week, hit my target of four cardios after two lazy weeks of only three. Am finding squash to have more of an impact on feeling trimmer, so in an effort to switch things up for the body (so it doesn't get used to the current regime) am playing three games of squash this week and finally starting some resistance exercise with weights (they took a while to arrive).

Am also doing another block without alcohol, at nine days so far and will hit my record of 13 on Friday. That's just for you Miller

Am at a steady 83kg, but am definitely looking thinner and the wife has told me I have put on a bit of muscle on my legs. Still pushing to get lower though.

Diet has been goodish, my cheat day is more like a cheat couple of days, but basically improved. No crap snacks during the week, etc. Not missing the fizzy drinks at all, and am actually craving water when thirsty. Weird.

You're toast after Easter my friend

I'm drinking a lot of water, too, and rather enjoying it. So much that I went and bought a water jug, the first substantive increase to MvJ's kitchenware since the great steak-knife purchase of early 2004. Odd.
